One look at his face (before the incident) made me wonder the same thing. He seemed very ungrounded, very detached from his environment. Look at the pic of him posing with his mother.
That alone is no indication that he would ever become this violent, if deliberate.

Whenever there is the remotest chance the person can be linked to the right, it is due to right wing extremism, Trump, Palin, racism, homophobia, etc., etc., etc. And if a gun is involved, the gun lobby goes nuts and calls for more infringement on 2A rights.
