Since these birds are appointees (`policy makers’) without civil service or civil rights job protection and can be replaced by a simple signed order from President Trump, an exercise to us as simple as us pulling the stopper from the sink, then why hasn’t he done this obvious swamp draining yet?

This is and will remain until corrected the biggest problem of the Trump admin. These people are true believers who will commit treason on any level they think they can get away with. Which, so far, is indeed any level at all. Even if and when Sessions et al get their prosecutorial rear ends in gear, for which there is not the slightest sign so far, they will proceed at an “oldey time” pace, taking 6 months to put a freaking stamp on a letter. The issues with these holdover folks, these people need to be frogmarched out of their cubicles in handcuffs, yesterday, last week, 5 months ago.
This is the most serious error of omission of the Trump admin and I don’t think it was that hard to foresee; but in any case, it’s proven by now. The effects will never abate until this thing is cauterized. And when you think that one memo leaked from an insider produces in its worst example the entire Mueller investigation which could go on for years; in its best case, 2-4 weeks of endless media anti-Trump barrage, this cannot be allowed to persist. This is a major piece of stink, having saboteurs in 80+% of all government positions. It’s unthinkable, at least to me it is.
Were they political appointees or not? Career staff always date from prior administrations but if they are competent and their work product does not reflect political bias, so what? Do you honestly think every single worker in the government gets changed out every time a new President comes along?

Even worse; the continuation of Susan Rice’s TS clearance (and other holdovers) in de facto effect ratifies the security of these folks in their current positions. This is IMO indicative of a very serious underestimation on Trump’s part: He’s badly underestimated the lengths people will go to to undermine him out of sheer hatred. He MUST fix this. I do not think he will, unfortunately. He is mistaken underestimating the acrimony he faces especially in these critical positions. I hope this is not fatal for him.
He does not understand that he is dealing with in essence a religion. The religion is the self-appointed righteousness of the left, the true believer mentality. And I would invite anyone who disagrees to go review the interviews with Evelyn Farkas from some months ago.
With these interviews you will see how fairly ordinary people within these bureaucracies will unfailingly self-supplant the years and years of cautions they have undoubtedly received over the handling of TS information with their self-anointed righteousness over defending the nation from the enemy of one Donald Trump. They think with perfect confidence they are uber patriots doing this. They are at once religious and utterly logical in the view that underlies their actions. When you now wrap these factors up in the other peculiar aspect of leftism, eg; the constant need to place oneself upon a morally superior pedestal, the implications are absolutely staggering. These people believe they will one day receive Nobel prizes for saving the nation. They believe they will be awarded medals by a grateful nation for preserving the Republic, such as they understand it. They are self-empowered by suddenly being granted discretion over the handling of national security info. They can leak this, leak that, hold this for a better opportunity to disclose. They are not doing it for monetary gain, they are not selling these secrets and surveillance work products. They are morally and intellectually superior patriots doing their duty to protect the nation. When you think about it, there’s potentially no limit to what they might do to destroy Trump.

McMaster says there’s no such thing as a hold over.
I think Trump may be afraid that if he fires certain people his orders may not be obeyed. The more who stand up to him, the weaker he gets. He can’t afford to give them too many opportunities to publicly oppose him.
I’m not as happy with Trump as I thought I’d be. But I’ll always be thrilled that at least he stopped Hillary.
