A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.

There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.

The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

Thanks.

I believe it is important to get as many facts on the record as possible.

So at this point we know both ships were headed towards Singapore.

I have read the Alnic MC has a top speed of 12 knots and somehow it runs into the McCain.

Others have asked: “Was the McCain dead in the water?”

every destroyer I know of, is a first time command for an officer of Commander (05) rank. By the time they become the captain of a destroyer they normally have served a tour as an XO, two department head tours and one or two tours as a division officer.

Collisions between warships and other large vessels are extremely rare, with naval historians going back more than 50 years to find a similar incident.~~~~~~~~ http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-navy-crash-idUSKCN1B100C

GPS spoofing, radar jamming, localized emp, call it what you like, but this, in my opinion was another attack.

With everything going on it that area the crews of all Navy vessels would be on a heightened state of readiness.

Navy is scrambling now trying to come up with a cover story, but something is amiss.

Either the Ruskies or the Chicoms/Norks have something that can hack the navigational and or electronic warfare systems . No doubt in my mind.

All the Captains I served under on these ships were candidates for Admiral or it was their last command before they retired. They were all full captains.

The first one I had, he had 8 Captain and 3 EO Command positions and was considered a candidate for Admiral. After he left, I believe he retired because the ship was hit by a mine under his command.

Back then, it didn’t matter if it was your fault, if your ship was involved in an incident it would stop your career. A collision, near collision, or a watch foul up would get you instantly removed.

it is with sadness for the 10 lost that I must ask — WHAT THE HELL ARE WE DOING IN THE NAVY.? This is court marshal stuff. What is happening with our ship commanders? How do you noy see a 600 foot barge? Where is the monitoring of surface radar ? This is horrible.

black shoe Captains (06) do not command destroyers. They Command cruisers, large amphibs and they use to command large supply ships before supply ships went to MSC.

Image: Damaged USS John S. McCain Arrives in Singapore; 10 Missing They better start checking to see if these Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyers are being tagged by equipment to track them while in port in Yokosuka Japan. Are these Super Tankers computers being taken over by hackers...and deliberately run into these ships... carrying 39 Tomahawk missiles?

"Have you watched “The Last Ship” on TNT? :-)"

Quite a good show with patriotic values. Don't know how accurate the portrayal of Navy procedures is, however.

The dirty little secret is we have been over working the US Navy for decades.

>>><<<

It’s hardly “a dirty little secret”.

And the whole US military has been over worked.

Would think that the tanker had a slightly higher top speed 15-18 knots maybe. From the damage shown in photos, I would say that the tanker hit McCain at a very slight angle with McCain dead in the water, or perpendicular with McCain making a very slow speed to port.

That’s what I was on.

Check out their resumes.

I know they were a Destroyer, but this class of Destroyer is a stepping stone for Captain and moving on to a Cruiser.

Cruisers is what I was speaking of but just to get a command of one of these Destroyers required vast command experience, I don’t mean as a Captain in rank. I mean CO.

In other words, The Captain of the ship

Twice in two months, it is beyond shocking and appalling that such collisions are happening for our $1 billion Arleigh Burke class destroyers!!
