Hurricane Irma Live Thread
NHC/NOAA ^ | NHC/NOAA | NHC/NOAA

While thoughts and prayers are with our Texas FRiends and neighbors, we are at the peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season. Hurricane Irma continues its trek from Cape Verde across the pond and toward the Hebert Box (see below). People with interests in the Southeastern U.S. and Gulf of Mexico should be alert to the forecast path updates for this powerful storm. It is important to note that the average NHC track errors are about 175 and 225 statute miles at days 4 and 5, respectively.

Hurricane Irma originally had a small wind field. In the past 24 hours, however, the wind field has expanded with hurriance force winds up to 40 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds up to 140 miles from the storm center.

FL Governor Rick Scott reminds Floridians: Families should take time today to make sure you have a disaster plan and fully-stocked Disaster Supply Kit. Florida residents from West Palm Beach to Tampa Bay are heeding the alert. Store shelves are emptying of bottled water.

That GIF show a clear WNW path... Clearly, with a N component. All I’m saying is; Irma doesn’t go MORE westward from here.. only more North.

I just watched a weather.com update, and what THEY say is; The Bermuda High is going to strengthen, pushing Irma a little more Westward.

I guess, we’ll see.... I don’t think so. I think, she keeps her current heading, or moves even more north.

The fate of much of Florida hangs in the balance in the next 24 hours.

Message on Storm Carib from Barbuda:

“The extent of the destruction on Barbuda is unprecedented,” Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne said in an interview with public broadcaster ABS Television/Radio. “95% of properties would have suffered” some kind of damage from the storm, he said, and added

“Barbuda is barely habitable.”

Prime Minister Browne also said that the one confirmed fatality at this time is an infant, and died while the mother of the child was trying to escape a property.

I’m out where the squiggly tracks converge now. I’m well above any likely river flooding though.
Gaston was the storm I remember” ... it pivoted from a northerly track to a northeasterly track nearly over the Richmond area, which led to the afternoon of exceptional rainfall, with the epicenter over Richmond.”

That’s when it gets really freaky. We were stocked up...on gas and provisions - but, unsettling nonetheless.

When a cell phone tower cable snapped during Ivan, the loose cable swept its way almost horizontally through a trailer park cutting many of the trailers in half.

It is getting cooler here in E. TN so the worst we would probably get would be a lot of rain. Also, doesn’t a hurricane lose strength as it goes gather from water?

Thanks so much. We’re, thankfully, good. Evac’d and all was good with our home, upon return. Thank you, Lord!

We have friends whose homes flooded :( But...they are okay, and that’s all that matters.

Houston is a mess and on a long road to recovery.

Prayers for all in Irma’s path.

On your before/after photos (post 1680), I am almost positive that the white-ish house in the background of the ‘before’ shot was featured on an HGTV house-hunters episode.

The draw on that house was partly that the seller had control of the lower lot down the hill, and thus the view would never become obstructed.

Just looked at Google maps. Pretty big bottleneck at the merge of the Fla Tpk and I-75.

Just an FYI for everyone. Don't get caught up in IRMA going East of Florida. May still be a direct hit or may go a little west. 1 hour ago, Joe Bastardi verified account, mocking the euro and gfs models. Joe Bastardi‏Verified account @BigJoeBastardi Euro was too far west on Matthew, GFS known bias likely too far east.
