WASHINGTON Noncitizens will still not be able to vote in local elections in College Park, Maryland, after city officials said Friday it did not have the required number of votes to adopt a much-debated measure. The announcement came several days after city council seemingly passed the measure Tuesday.
The measure, known as Charter Amendment 17-CR-02, would have allowed noncitizens to vote in local elections. But according to the statement from College Park officials released Friday night, there were not enough votes.
Most council actions require a simple majority, but changes to the charter require affirmative votes from six elected officials. That requirement came after the city charter was amended in June.
On Tuesday, when the measure was thought to have passed, the city council voted 4-3, with one abstention. That was actually not enough to pass the charter amendment.
Therefore, Charter Amendment 17-CR-02 was not adopted, according to Fridays statement.

Eventually even 'rich liberals' will question paying to have their children turned into unemployable snowflakes...
Ya. But not until after they have wasted $120K on a useless degree. Yet, those same liberals want other people to pay for their mistakes by giving them a free college degree.
I have posted this before, and do every once in a while just to make sure I stay on the right track. I agree with you, ‘many” democrats would sell their kids in to slavery if it meant they’d win. It is clear enough, from watching them bring their kids with them to various liberal things that kids have no business being at, and their support of homosexuals and gender change all the way down to kindergarten.
But there are some liberals I still deal with.
I use the rule of threes to classify liberals. In the first class of liberals (the ones I still talk to, can be friends with, etc.) are, for lack of a better term, bleeding heart liberals. Theyre not bad people, theyre not evil people they simply arrive at conclusions based on their emotions. These are the kind of people I think we can talk to, the kind of people you will sometimes hear say things like: why cant the government make some money available to people who are down on their luck? I view them as being basically good people, but either misinformed or mal-informed.
The second class of liberals are the moonbats. I dont view these people as being either very intelligent or very thoughtful. Theyre the people who drunk the Kool-Aid, and can recite talking points with spittle on their lips, fevered faces and bulging eyes. I find these people are impossible to talk to because theyre impervious to logic and reason. They believe what they want to believe, and they believe in it passionately, deeply, and with no element of self introspection involved. These are people who fit the bill of the description Useful Idiots. They are the ones who will scream the loudest in protest when the Marxists and the true believers take over and push the moonbats into the reeducation camps with all the rest of us. But I agree with you! Im not like the rest of these people! Why are you doing this?
The third class of liberals are the true, hard-core believers. They not only know the writings of Saul Alinsky, but understand what his tactics mean and how they are used. They dont believe in the garbage that the moonbats subscribe to. These people believe in raw, unadulterated possession of power. There is no compromise and no negotiation with these people that will be fruitful. These people are true enemies of the American way of life. Most of these people (if not all) hate this country and all it stands for, and wish to see it transformed into their vision under their control.
I remember back in the late 70s/early 80s when Takoma Park declared itself a “nuclear-free zone”.
Maryland "Freak State" PING!
I think this is just another example of one of the new tactics of the left. Just say this is what happened or this was agreed upon and then proceed to act as if that’s true. Oh, how I loathe these people.
Bump for later.
Well then, let’s give the unborn a vote on abortion. They’re kind of affected by it, don’t you think?
I wouldn't be too sure of that
