Passion of the Christ actor will star in new film on St. Paul the Apostle

Jim Caviezel, the actor who played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ, will play St. Luke in a new movie about the apostle St. Paul.

Paul, Apostle of Christ is slated to be released from AFFIRM Films, a division of Sony, and ODB Films, in 2018. It began shooting in Malta recently, Variety reported.

The “inspirational drama” will tell the story of St. Paul, who went “from the most infamous persecutor[s] of Christians to Christ's most influential apostle,” according to the the producers' description.

It will take place primarily during Paul’s last days, when he was imprisoned and about to be executed.

James Faulkner of Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones will play Paul.

“Paul changed from murdering Christians to becoming their unlikely leader. His life personifies 'forgiveness,' a concept that seems almost impossible today – but [is] desperately needed,” said Producer T.J. Berden.

Before he was called Paul, he was Saul and was breathed “murderous threats” against the disciples of Jesus, according to the Bible (Acts 9:1).

I’ll hope for the best but not be surprised if this turns out to be a hatchet job. Though in all fairness Hollywood did a pretty good job with “Risen”.

FWIW, I don’t think Caviezel would attach his name to this unless it was going to be well done.

Ah...he played the future father in law of cousin Rose. Minor role. Taking the title and lead role of St. Paul will be a bigger challenge.

It was a minor role, but he had a commanding stage presence.

The film company making this is known for good Christian movies so I think it won't be a hatchet job. Whether it is great is another thing.
Another thing in the article....Caviezel is working with Mel Gibson on a sequel to The Passion of the Christ. Says it will tell the story of the Resurrection

There was a tv mini series called AD which covered the book of Acts way back in the day now. I recall it was well done.

your welcome....maybe my memory is fuzzy on this...wiki says it’s from 1985 broadcast on NBC. Italian/British production. Lots of hollywood stars. Written partly by Anthony Burgess. Roman Emperors are a focus beyond the biblical part. I just seem to remember enjoying it back now 32 years ago. 6 parts although on youtube broken down to even smaller parts. This is part 1 the beginning on youtube.

Me and mine will be there when it comes to our town. We loved Jim’s portrayal of Jesus and know he is a practicing Catholic.

I think that shipwreck was when he was on his fourth missionary journey that took him from the eastern Med. He debarked in a port just north of Naples (from the Greek name Neapolis, or “New City”). You can google “Herculaneum cross” for an article and images of what was buried (by Vesuvius) about 16 years after St. Paul went through that area.

“Taking the title and lead role of St. Paul will be a bigger challenge.”

You have GOT to be kidding.

He’s an excellent British actor and the role will be routine for him.
