Tennessee Republicans Prepare for Another Senate Primary

When Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker asked President Donald Trump to campaign for Alabama Sen. Luther Strange ahead of next week’s Senate Republican runoff, he might have had a little self-preservation in mind.

A win by Roy Moore, the controversial former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice, would throw a wrench into the deliberative body in which the moderate Tennessee Republican serves. But a Moore victory could also embolden primary challengers to other sitting senators, like Corker.

Corker said Tuesday he hasn’t yet reached a decision about seeking a third term, and he wouldn’t comment on reports that Trump asked him to run for re-election at their meeting last week.

He’s already facing at least one declared primary challenger. Tennessee is familiar with contentious primaries, especially in open-seat races. But should he run again, Corker can find solace in the fact that there are at least two more Republicans interested in taking him on, which would split the anti-incumbent vote.

MOORE WINS RUNOFF = DOMINOES BEGIN TO FALL

And that terrifies McConnell, the RINO GOP Establishment and the Swamp dwellers.

Corker has had some encouragement. I wrote him to get the hell out.

However, in Tennessee, ever conservative and their brother in law will run and dilute the minority conservative vote and allow the moderate Republican to win.

Every single legal registered voter in the state of Alabama needs to turnout, regardless of political party choice, and cast their valued vote for Judge Roy Moore, next Tuesday, September 26, 2017, Senate election runoff day. We must complete politically destroy the Republican Establishment RINOs and “Never Trumpers” like right now!!!

“But should he run again, Corker can find solace in the fact that there are at least two more Republicans interested in taking him on, which would split the anti-incumbent vote.”

An old, old story. Sad, but true.

Did Tennessee ever have runoffs? Was there always sufficient Republican presence that winning the Deomcratic primary did not carry absolute certainty of winning the general and so the need was not present?

Blackburn, Green, or Carr would be good replacements for Corker. I suspect Blackburn and Green may not run, leaving Carr as the principal challenger. He is a good man whom I supported in his run against Alexander, but he is perhaps the weakest of the three. I think that Blackburn could take on Corker and win, but she is probably waiting for 2020. I’m not totally convinced that Corker will run again. He probably will, but I hope not. He may be waiting for another establishment candidate, like Bill Haslam, to declare before deciding against running again.

Notice “they” (the RINO-elite-Gopers) have already begun splitting up the opposition vote by getting as MANY anti-establish candidates in as possible to EVERY primary that an establishment-RINO-GROPer faces.

Split up the opposition by adding as many trace candidates and as many kook-headed distracting candidates as possible, oppose the most conservative candidate the strongest with as much Washington establishment money as possible, and then wait for the voters for the best-known-name - the guy already in office!

Handled?

Should it not be phrased: “Ward fought this in AZ (and lost), O’Donnell fought this in Maryland (and lost), we all fought this in MS (and lost), Handel fought this in GA (but won despite Washington’s (lack of) “help” ...

No, I mean this time around. Ward has done very well-—against my advice, by the way-—by coming out very early as the “front runner” and essentially cutting out all other opponents to Flakey.

So, yeah, she handled it, so far, very well.

Got it. I see your point. And by doing that, she’s turned off the “I will get in the race as a long-shot-nobody” then.

No, I can’t recall that there was ever a runoff. Until 1966/70, it was effectively assured the Democrat nominee would win the Governorship and Senate races. Only due to ugly, internecine Democrat primaries and a crackup of the ruling Democrat machine, did it give the GOP an opportunity to start winning.
