I am about to ask something off topic, but since you mentioned Clancy, I was wondering if you could recommend a first book of his to get into. I’ve never read him before but am interested in starting.

Hunt For Red October then you must read Red Storm Rising. The Sum of All Fears is also a good one as a third book but if you read all three do so in the order above.

Reading them in order would likely be best.

Red Storm Rising however, which is the one referred to above is quite distinct from the other books which have a character development feature.

Red Storm is different in many ways and could be read separate from the ‘Jack Ryan’ books.

I loved Red Storm because it involved a scenario where the USSR invaded Europe and the NATO war plans were essentially assessed. I actually visited so many of the actual sites mentioned in the book that it felt almost eerie to me.

I read that one when it was new. Maybe time to pick it up again.

The first one Hunt For Red October is I think the best.
But Red Storm Rising is great as well. Red Storm has more things going on it; but Clancy does a superb job tying it together
