Before I started researching gun deaths, gun-control policy used to frustrate me. I wished the National Rifle Association would stop blocking common-sense gun-control reforms such as banning assault weapons, restricting silencers, shrinking magazine sizes and all the other measures that could make guns less deadly.
Then, my colleagues and I at FiveThirtyEight spent three months analyzing all 33,000 lives ended by guns each year in the United States, and I wound up frustrated in a whole new way. We looked at what interventions might have saved those people, and the case for the policies Id lobbied for crumbled when I examined the evidence. The best ideas left standing were narrowly tailored interventions to protect subtypes of potential victims, not broad attempts to limit the lethality of guns.

This is what we call "profiling". For some reason, some people are against it.
IF semi-automatic weapons (or automatic weapons for that matter) had existed in the mid-eighteenth century, then militias would have been so-equipped.
The purpose of the Second Amendment is centered on two ideas: "free State" and "the people."
A third intent is of critical importance: the right "shall not be infringed."
It is our responsibility to defend the free State and to allow no further infringement of out natural rights.
Suicide is most likely due to deep and often untreated depression. This depression is very real, and while the cause varies, the thinking that life isn't worth living or it would be better if I was dead (i.e. The pain would stop) becomes overwhelming. Early intervention to detect and treat depression is critical to reducing these gun deaths. You may not be a victim, but in the midst of a true depressive episode you clearly aren't in a healthy stare of mind.
As for the young men shooting each other up. This is much more than gangs. It is a direct consequence of Republican and Democratic policy in creating the welfare state and promoting bastards. To look honestly at the consequences of our deleterious social policies, one has to agree with BLM that whitey is out to get blacks. Our white politicians, in the guise of compassion and welfare policies have destroyed families, encouraged out-of-wedlock births, bombed out the inner city, and made Uncle Sam the Daddy in so many low-income communities. The result is feral youth with no hope of redemption. This will never stop so the number of feral youth gangbangers will continue and grow as long as birth rates remain positive in welfare communities.
Bottom line: it’s not the guns that are the problem, but the people who misuse them.
“Apple won the Computer culture by making it psychologically accessible to women with the iphone waht was once a predominently obscure male endeavor.”
Eh? Can you explain this statement?
She's lucky. She got "mugged" metaphorically by a set of facts. There's no turning back now. She has turned her brain on and begun to actually think; to base her thoughts on reality. I have great hope for her.
The comments are frightening, both in their ignorance of the facts and their eagerness to submit to tyranny. Yes, it’s the WaPo, but there’s no voice of sanity or even modest intelligence.

With enough planning and preparation a mass murderer will almost always be successful regardless of the weaponry of choice. He/she is already well past the point where any current or possible laws are moot.
I’m so cynical I truly expected her conclusion was going to be total confiscation. Good article.
I do not have a problem with her statement. If she does not want a gun in her home, that is her choice. Fine and dandy with me. It crosses the line when a person does not want a gun in my home. I do not need someone making decisions for me.
A Giant luxury mega-mansion for Gore, a Government Green EcoShack made of poo for you.
LOL!
“I drive past a development of tiny houses. Individually, they are cute.”
They even have their own TV show. If I want living space that cramped, I’ll at least buy a sailboat.
Do you realize that some places are so safe that the risk of an accident with a gun is greater than the risk of an intruder?
I would say that most of the homes in the United States fall in this category.
Carnage of this scale is...Memorial Day weekend in Chicago.
She’s a great follow on twitter.
Q1: Has “Drug Control” worked?
Q2: “Gun Control” would be different, exactly why?
“Americans women already have the best thing to protect them from abusive partners, its called... a gun.”
It seems to me that women abused by domestic partners could also leave. They have reasons why they don’t. Maybe they don’t have the money to survive on their own. Maybe their personalities are not aggressive enough to handle the confrontation of leaving. Maybe they love the guy anyway.
In lots of these cases they don’t seem like the kind of people who could use a gun to save themselves from their abusive partner. Any gun they had could well end up in the hands of the abuser.
Rush Limbaugh just discussed this article on air. Thanks for this thread!
Of course, liberals will either refuse to read it because the headline upsets them, or will accuse Leah of being a self-hating female traitor to “the cause”. Or both.
