Exactly.

No Republican in NY or NJ will lose a primary because they voted to protect the SALT deduction. If they voted the other way, they would be toast.

Tom Massie of Kentucky is a principled libertarian who has consistently opposed Paul Ryan and his RINO leadership.

I stand with Massie, not against him on this matter.

The rest of them its hard to say why they voted NO.

Duncan of TN and Gaetz of FL have NO excuse, as their States don’t have an income tax!

It was explained Thursday afternoon that the GOP NAY votes were mostly by Rs in blue States. They waited until late to vote that way after being sure the GOP side would win the vote. That action was approved by the GOP House leaders.

Duncan and Gaetz need to be primaried by Conservatives.

If taxes go up even on blue states i don’t see how that helps Trump or the GOP with the state and local taxes deduct going away. He needs their votes also.
*********************************************
Cutting the Fed tax rate and doubling the standard deduction is the plan. Only people with high income and high SALT would possibly experience tax increases. ....I thought the Dems wanted to ensure the rich didn’t get tax cuts????

Middle and lower income folks often don’t have enough deductions to itemize. ...They are often renters or have low incomes that lead to the standard deduction.

My 35 year career with my employer ended Pearl Harbor day in 2001, when I was 59 and divorced. I agreed to a contract that said I could not apply for unemployment, in exchange for full medical until Medicare at 65. However, I had to live and pay my bills for about 10 months with ZERO income, until my pension began paying.

Got refunds from the IRS for a couple of years. Then I began doubling up on mortgage payments (paid off 30yr. in 20). Interest amount + property tax was less than std. ded., so I’ve had to do std. ded. for about 6 years and pay thousands each year to IRS.

A lower tax rate and double the std. ded. will save me and millions of others a ton of money. ...Sorry for the length..

Do you not grok that lowering the tax RATE and doubling the standard deduction will BENEFIT more people than doing away with a SALT deduction will hurt?

“I live in a district represented by one of the House members on this list.”

...and we sure wouldn’t know by the Zambian flag you fly.

I tend to agree that this was one of those structured votes to give cover to some, and still pass the bill. Ken Buck’s vote in CO for example. The only Western vote.

“Not if they keep the whole ban on the stated and property tx deductible.
And Reagan’s tax cuts were across the board; this thing isn’t!

Talk about bending over backwards to find something to get your nose out of joint. It is the tax cut and the degree of tax cut that provides for the economic growth. The more tax cut there is, the more growth. It doesn’t make much sense to throw the baby out with the bath water.

And at this time, no one really knows what the final bill will be. But you can rest assured, some Republican Congressmen will try to screw it up.

Trump should try to get what he can out of this idiot group. Maybe later on down the road he will have some elected he can deal with and implement better.

So Katko allowed himself to be thrown under the bus, knowing the bill would still pass, correct?

Thanks for explaining that.

Katko has been very good for the most part and is a FAR better choice than having a dem in office allegedly representing us.

That is SOOO true. I can appreciate why he felt he needed to do that.

Post 51 explained it well. I *HATE* politics and was not aware of those kinds of workings of the political system.

Frank Lobiondo is my representative in Cumberland County - the poorest county in the highest property taxed state in the country. While I have a lot of issues with this guy, people here count on the property tax deduction. My property tax alone is a little over $14,000. My daughter’s family in Cherry Hill top $17,000! That is a hell of a deduction to lose since I have no dependents to deduct. Then there is also the 7% state sales tax. There has to be a better way than me, and guys like me, taking a bigger hit than someone who pays say $5,000 a year. This tax reform (if you can call it that) is supposed to be fair. While Frank is a RINO, he has my support for a no vote in this instance. I know a few assholes out there will say move out of NJ but I have just two words to say to that.

Instead of all this screwing around, make EVERYONE pay a minimum of 5% tax and go up maybe 4 more brackets with no deductions. Half of all Americans pay absolutely no federal tax and that is where the unfairness is. They have no skin in the game and vote democrat to get MORE free stuff. I say screw that.

A couple of spending and deficit hawks and the rest are from states with high state and local taxes and who disapprove of the loss of the deduction in the proposed tax cuts.

Gosh I don’t have time for a full interview but that does remind us of a good movie.

Nothing stops.
Nothing.
Or you will do
the hardest time there is.
No more protection from the guards.
I’ll pull you out of that 1-bunk Hilton
and cast you down with the sodomites.
You’ll think you’ve been
f****d by a train.
And the library?
Gone.
Sealed off, brick by brick.
We’ll have us a little
book barbecue in the yard.
They’ll see the flames for miles.
We’ll dance around it like wild Injuns.
You understand me? Catching my drift?
Or am I being obtuse?
