Washington (CNN) — A federal grand jury in Washington, DC, on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller, according to sources briefed on the matter. The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge.
Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said.
It is unclear what the charges are. A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.
Mueller was appointed in May to lead the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Under the regulations governing special counsel investigations, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who has oversight over the Russia investigation, would have been made aware of any charges before they were taken before the grand jury for approval, according to people familiar with the matter.
On Friday, top lawyers who are helping to lead the Mueller probe, including veteran prosecutor Andrew Weissmann, were seen entering the court room at the DC federal court where the grand jury meets to hear testimony in the Russia investigation.
Reporters present saw a flurry of activity at the grand jury room, but officials made no announcements.

Mueller is authorized to investigate "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation," according to Rosenstein's order.
The special counsel's investigation has focused on potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, as well as obstruction of justice by the President, who might have tried to impede the investigation.
CNN reported that investigators are scrutinizing Trump and his associates' financial ties to Russia. Mueller's team has also examined foreign lobbying conducted by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, former national security adviser Michael Flynn, and others. His team has issued subpoenas for documents and testimony to a handful of figures...

The problem with indicting a ham sandwich is having to prosecute it, which is just stupid.

Especially because of that. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit that the timing of these indictments is to deflect attention from his involvement with the uranium deal and the dossier.
He’ll be turning out indictments from now until election day and that’s the only thing the propaganda organs will be covering.
Oh no - they wouldn’t want it to be released on a Friday. They are waiting for Monday to make the announcement so it can be wall to wall coverage all week. It isn’t about justice, it is about the narrative - otherwise it would not be released on a Monday and would be released today, tomorrow, etc. Not wait until Monday - this is designed for media consumption.
Uranium One and the Dossier revelations made things way too hot to handle, the informant being released from his gag order, etc. so they had to do something to get the story buried. Now if all that information comes out - including the information from the informant - the press has something to use instead and not cover that story at all.

Muellar’s pants are on fire. He probably had two sets of possible charges, two directions to go, depending on where any heat came from, on him.
Could be Flynn, but probably Manafort, however, the chronology for the investigation began with Flynn.
If it skips Flynn, perhaps Flynn should be cleared.
If they really want to get Trump Hot it will be his Son on some drummed up matter.

Remember...it came out a couple days ago....Manafort was working for the Podesta Group and Hillary when he had Russian contacts
