That is just the start. The NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement expires in 2020. A New Deal will come, and I have to believe it will break the strangle-hold the player's union has had over the business part of the league.

The timing of that expiration actually works against the owners. The salary cap for the players is tied to TV revenues, and with the current NFL TV contracts running past 2020 the league won’t be able to make the case that their TV revenues are down.

It was already bought out - by Disney. It’s the reason they went leftist.

In the future, business students will be taught four case studies of how bad management can destroy even the best brand names:

Kodak: Invented the digital camera, shelved it because it was going to compete with their film business.

Sears: The original online store. OK, so it the catalog wasn't online, but it came to your door, had an order number for every item, and they even had dedicated pick-up centers. If they had built a website, there would have been no Amazon.

Blockbuster: Who didn't have a Blockbuster card? Netflix came out and said they were going to mail/stream movies, and instead of swatting them away with their own similar services, they swatted away customers who didn't have to return movies on time.

ESPN. All they did was show live sports and sports scores, and worked their way to the most expensive TV channel in the world - and everyone bought it! Then they decided ESPN stood for Ebonic Sports Political Network, and the next you know, they are losing viewers faster than laps at the Indy 500.

It’s very common for large corporations to run long run planning teams / strategy teams that do this kind of thing. This probably is planning for 2021 and beyond. While the NFL ratings are down, they are still the highest ratings ESPN gets. No reason for them to not air the games once payment has been made.

You are correct. On the other hand, they will have data for the drop in season ticket holders, general ticket sales, merchandise, concessions, and advertisement dollars.

The owners will be caught in a conundrum, knowing they will have to cut the bottom line because the players themselves are the ones that caused it. The wild card of all this will be the private conversations among owners.

They may decide it is better to go with scabs in order to survive, and break up the power in the NFLPA.

The way ESPN is going, it might as well try what the NFL is.

Put Kaepernic in on all important decision making meetings, regarding this problem. It’s sure working for them.

LOL

I’m sorry that ESPN is run by a bunch of morons... Rasmussen created a great network, liberals wrecked it...

Kind of ironic since so many have stopped watching ESPN because of their obvious hard left slant to politics and the punishing of conservatives and elevating of leftists.....

By checking out are you saying that do not get involved at all? I have stopped watching TV, except for a few old movies once in awhile. But I am still engaged in what is happening, via the internet where I am not limited to the news offered only by the mainstream, including fair & balanced Fox.

Checking out means not watching the standard propaganda filth anymore. TV as you say.

I remember how proud ESPN was when they got their first NFL contract - FINALLY!- they cried. It was a sign of respect. They were now “big league”. 30 years later, they’re letting it go. Watch for more NBA, more MMA, more auto racing.

That was what I mean, we have now checked into the internet and can control what we want to watch. Be it old movies or whatever. We can also get interactive with it. I myself watch very little TV. Then it usually is to be with the wife more than really the programs. Fortunately, by design, she is conservative and doesn’t like liberal hogwash that dominates the TV.
