Senators 'Super close' on bipartisan deal on guns
The Hill ^

Posted on 11/15/2017 11:36:23 AM PST by JP1201

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said on Wednesday that senators are nearing a bipartisan deal on gun legislation following a number of high-profile mass shootings.

Murphy's office pointed The Hill to comments made last week by Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas), who said that he would talk to Democrats about strengthening background checks – an initiative that gained some bipartisan momentum earlier this month after a gunman opened fire on a church in southern Texas, killing 26 people.

It was revealed shortly after the attack that the gunman, 26-year-old Devin Kelley, was able to slip through the system and purchase firearms, despite a known history of violence.

What “bi”-partisan?

Are they pretending to be two different parties?

The article talks of “strengthening background checks”. Hope it doesn’t change the law to require such a check for purely private purchases.

“Strengthening” maybe Newspeak for “take all their guns”.

And that had nothing to do with a gap in the law, but instead in the Air Force not doing their job, and no new legislation can prevent that.

I am sick to DEATH of this stuff. Wayne Allyn Root had a commentary in which he mentioned that Texas, TEXAS!, has a law in place preventing guns in churches. There should’ve been half a dozen people armed in that church & they could’ve prevented the carnage. If only there was no stupid law against carrying. It just makes me ill.

No more laws from IDIOTS. Leave us alone & let us protect ourselves, since it’s obvious that the police & the various bureaucracies are unable to do the job.

From what little we can glean from the article, it may be just a “if you’re going to do something wrong, just don’t be stupid about it” fix to the unconstitutional background check system. AF didn’t notify the NICS system about what sounds like a felony (nor the dishonorable discharge, nor the reported armed attack on military staff, nor ...). My guess is this will use more words to compel the AF to do what a lot of words told the AF to do but ignored because they’re mere words.

Of note in the article, indicating the obvious bias:
“Kelley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after carrying out the attack”
...interestingly omitting the fact that an armed citizen shot Kelley, who offed himself when said armed citizen was likely to finish the job after a 100-MPH car chase.
Of course an article reporting on the likelihood of new gun control laws fails to note how guns were used RIGHT to stop an attack by someone whom gun control laws comprehensively failed to stop.

More laws.

We have ~20,000 gun laws on the books already today. If each one of those laws is a mere 10 pages in length those laws would be nearly 100 feet high.

We don’t need a single new law. This is nothing more than politicians making themselves look good by looking busy while accomplishing nothing.

"...new legislation..."

It is beyond stupid to pass legislation that will be soundly ignored.
Any ridiculous effort to “collect” private firearms will be a failure.

Yep another clear case of having the requirement/law and it didn't work because someone didn't abide by it.

How about make clerks in the Air Force DO THEIR DAMNED JOB!

Can't the President do this with an EO -- a policy change falling squarely within the purview of the Commander in Chief?

No new legislation is required.

I bet that’s exactly what it is. And of course, that’s impossible without full registration.

We have the presidency, house, and senate and the only thing that we can pass is gun control?
