Trump is confronting a major embarrassment by backing Roy Moore — and he seems to know it
Washington Post ^ | November 27, 2017 | By Aaron Blake

Before departing for his Thanksgiving vacation last week, President Trump teased a possible campaign visit for Roy Moore in Alabama. “I'll be letting you know next week,” he said. Trump's comments were noncommittal, but they were a marked shift from previous White House assurances that Trump wasn't going. And Trump seemed to be hinting he'd actually have something newsworthy to say.

Alas, it wasn't to be.

Trump is extremely self-conscious about being perceived as a loser. He talks and tweets regularly about how well Republicans have done in special congressional elections this year. He tempered his support for Strange even while visiting Alabama to support him, saying, “I’ll be honest, I might have made a mistake.”

Trump's decision not to lend a hand in person speaks volumes, both about Moore's chances and about Trump's wayward quasi-endorsement of him. But it also doesn't change the fact that backing two losing candidates in the same race and three in a row overall would be extremely embarrassing for Trump. And he seems to know it.

If the Democrat Party ever discovers that the American voter is so gullible that they can win elections through the use of paid liars, our Republic is lost forever.

Truthfully, if President Trump does nothing, Roy Moore is likely to win. But if President Trump does *anything*, it could backfire.

So the best bet is for President Trump to make a very private phone call to Roy Moore, and *explain* the situation to him, then offer him private encouragement, plus to sweeten it for him by offering him financial support from other than the RINO establishment that has cut him off.

Importantly, a wild card, some retired Marine Col. named Lee Busby, has suddenly announced he is entering the race as a write in vote, which stinks on ice. Busby spent 31 years in the Marine Corps and on his last tour of duty was vice chief of staff to then-Gen. John Kelly, who is now White House chief of staff.

This sounds like an insider effort to cost Moore just enough votes to give the Democrat a win.

Which means that President Trump might have yet *another* snake in the woodpile, and he needs to find out about it ASAP. If it is Kelly himself, that is good enough to fire him. But if this retired Colonel is the front man of some other scheme, it is a clear and present danger to President Trump.

They just don’t get it and probably never will. Trump’s strategy is brilliant yet very so simple.

They discovered that forty years ago.

I suspect this is an attempt to goad Trump into a campaign visit, to be met with an all-out Ferguson-style riot. Whatever the outcome of the election, Trump and Moore would both get smeared in the press.

You know, Trump wasn't my first choice for POTUS. But the people voted and I got in line behind him, because that was the right thing to do. Trump should say something similar about Moore.

But campaign for him? I think that's dangerous, and I don't think it's necessary.

Trump’s decision not to lend a hand in person speaks volumes, both about Moore’s chances

............

I agree....... The volumes it speaks is that the President doesn’t need to get
involved in any manner and thus cause friction on either side.

We had a local TV reporter who was light in the loafers, he quit this small market and moved to D.C., making an inexplicable rise to being a political pundit for a national media outlet. I really don’t see any explanation for his meteoric rise other than the casting couch.
And these are the people who want to brainwash us with their MSM propaganda.

I don't know how the media will be demoralized. They get to spend the next two years regurgitating the charges against Moore and asking every Republican candidate who runs in 2018 what they think about an alleged child molester being in the Senate and do they support him? They're loving this.

If anyone is frustrated it'll be McConnell.
