Someone is in serious trouble.
a RePlay of the old story of Casey Jones?
They still are not mentioning the Earth First terror activity? Is this a news blackout?
Excellent presentation, servo.
Condolences to all the casualties/families.
Oh my, what a mess :-\
Nine figures spent for 10 minutes. If the engineer was speeding, 3 guesses why.
Good enuf fer government work.
Was it?
This is the third passenger train to derail on a curve due to excessive speed. Amtrak in North Philly (5/12/15) and NY Metro-North at Spuyten Duyvil (12/1/13) are the others. Being a RR fan and historian, I don’t recall seeing these types of crashes happening in this frequency in the past.
What do you think about this?
Antifa Group Takes Down Web Page Promoting Train Derailments
Mr. LABRAT’s grafitti tag is getting world wide exposure on pics of that overpass. He should be proud of himself.
You can see in the overhead picture of the track that it is a tight radius curve coming off of the bridge.
Along came the FFV, the swiftest on the line
Running o’er the C&O road just 20 minutes behind
Running into Seville headquarters on the line
Receiving their strict orders from the station just behind
Running into Hampton, the engineer was there
George Allen was his name, with curling golden hair
His fireman, Jack Dixon, was standing by his side
Awaiting for strict orders while in the cab to ride
Georgie’s mother came to him with a bucket on her arm
Saying, my darling son, be careful how you run
For many a man has lost his life in trying to make lost time
And if you run your engine right you’ll get there just on time
Mother, I know your advice is good and later I’ll take heed
I think my engine is all right, I’m sure that she will speed
O’er this road I need to go at the rate of a cannonball
And when I blow for the stockyard gate I’m sure they’ll hear my call
Up the road she darted, against the rocks she crashed
Upside-down the engine turned, poor Georgie’s breast it smashed
His head was against the firebox door, the flames were rolling high
I’m glad I was born for an engineer, on the C&O road to die
The doctor said to Georgie, my darling boy, be still
Your life may yet be saved if it is God’s blessed will
Oh, no, said Georgie, that will not do, I want to die so free
I want to die for the engine I love, one hundred and forty-three
The doctor said to Georgie, your life cannot be saved
Murdered upon the railroad and laid in a lonesome grave
His face was covered up with blood, his eyes you could not see
And the very last words poor Georgie said was nearer, my God, to Thee
Have the lawsuits started yet?
And when they do, can you guess who’s going to be paying for the settlements?
The Ann Coulter rule for naming the engineer of this ill fated train is in effect.
The rule states that the longer it takes until we find out the name and details of the engineer who is responsible for this deadly deed the less likely it will be found to be a white male.
Looks like the heavy locomotive made it thru the turn, the lighter passenger cars were not so lucky. The engineer driving is in big trouble as he should be. One would think the speed of the train could be automated (with a manual over ride).
"Wreck Of The Old '97"
Johnny Cash
They gave him his orders at Monroe Virginia'
Sayin' "Steve you're way behind time.
This is not 38 this is old 97
You must put her into Spencer on time."
Well he turned around and said to his big greasy fireman,
"Hey, shovel on a little more coal.
And when we cross that Ol' White Mountain,
Watch ol' 97 roll."
It's a mighty rough road from Lynchburg to Danville,
In a line on a three mile grade.
It was on that grade that he lost his air brake,
You can see what a jump he made.
He was goin' down the grade makin' 90 miles an hour,
When his whistle broke into a scream.
He was found in the wreck with his hand on the throttle,
Scalded to death by the steam.
Now all you ladies you best take a warnin',
From this time on and learn,
Never speak harsh words to your true love or husband,
He may leave you and never return.
If it was doing 80 in a 30 then why didn’t it derail on the first curve?
I do not pretend to have any knowledge of the technical knowledge of operating today’s trains, but a practical question comes to mind: With today’s implementation of computer guidance systems, why was there not an automated system in place that could have prevented the train from maintaining such a speed as it approached the danger zone here? Don’t know how it would work, but I am imagining an engine driving the route with an operator, who while maintaining over-ride abilities, just stands by monitoring the train’s progress. Like auto-pilot on a plane. Tell me what I am not comprehending here.
As this was an accident involving the Government, we can put aside the conspiracy theories and instead focus upon the gross incompetence or gross negligence of the government employees.
Obama has filled the government with incompetent people.
Just consider the corruption in the Intelligence Services or the incompetent Navy ship drivers in Asian waters or now this negligent train wreck.
People are getting killed by incompetent government workers.
DRAIN THE SWAMP!!!!!
OSHA will say train drivers don’t have enough training.
