Consider this cold comfort: A quick study of the brutal American cold snap found that the Arctic blast really wasnt global warming but a freak of nature.
Frigid weather like the two-week cold spell that began around Christmas is 15 times rarer than it was a century ago, according to a team of international scientists who does real-time analyses to see if extreme weather events are natural or more likely to happen because of climate change.
The cold snap that gripped the East Coast and Midwest region was a rarity that bucks the warming trend, said researcher Claudia Tebaldi of the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the private organization Climate Central.
It was very definitely strange, especially now, said study co-author Gabriel Vecchi of Princeton University. A century ago it wouldnt have been that strange. Things like this are becoming stranger.
The study by the World Weather Attribution analyzed weather records dating back to 1880 and found the cold weather that hit a swath of the U.S. from Maine to Minnesota tends to happen once every 250 years. In the early 1900s, it happened about once every 17 years. Climate change has made such cold spells less common and less intense, the group said.

Not a freak of nature. Whatever happens naturally, is not a freak. Sometimes it’s warm, sometimes cold. Sometimes snow, sometimes rain, sometimes sunshine.
Weather varies.
Last year’s cold snap too???
I bet if it was unusual warmth, it wouldn’t be considered a freak of nature, “a quick analysis” would have shown!
They are so laughable, the warmist cult!
Very soon they’ll have to explain how the next ice age is due to global warming!
Did the people writing this realize this is absolute nonsense? How can you take a sample of 140 years and determine that something that just happened used to happen every 17 years but now only happens every 250 years?
Let me get this straight. Using 137 years of data they determined that a certain event occurs once every 250 years. But they also know that a little over 100 years ago (in the early 1900s), the same event occurred once every 17 years.
I'm going to have to call bullsh!t on that.
Yup. I’m 60 years old. Spent the first 35 in North Dakota, the rest here in Minnesota.
Every damn year it gets cold in the winter. EVERY DAMN YEAR.
And in the summer ( you won’t believe this ) it gets HOT. Some years hotter than others. Sometimes the summers are a bit cooler.
Looks like Seth needs some time in The Kerguelen islands as mentioned in:

For climate skeptics.
I just have to unpack this BS:
The study by the World Weather Attribution analyzed weather records dating back to 1880 and found the cold weather that hit a swath of the U.S. from Maine to Minnesota tends to happen once every 250 years.
Looking back over the past 130 years I can say that this sort of thing happens every 250 years. What?
In the early 1900s, it happened about once every 17 years.
But -- you just said -- going back to 1880, these things happened every 250 years. Now you say that around 1900 they were happening every 17 years? What?
Climate change has made such cold spells less common and less intense, the group said.
Let us note that the well documented Little Ice Age ended around 1850. As that Ice Age ended -- which is to say, as we came out of the Ice Age -- you say that cold spells became less common? This is fascinating. Will increasing my taxes help?
Climate change has made such cold spells less common and less intense, the group said.
But you said they occur every 17 years not 250. Seventeen years is in less than a generation.
“...it gets cold in the winter...”
A couple of decades ago I was in the Boundary Waters for a week. When we came out we had breakfast at the “Trail’s End” lodge. The old fellow who runs it told us that he doesn’t stay there in the Winter because of the cold.
He goes “down south” for the winter - to Duluth!
[[A quick study of the brutal American cold snap found that the Arctic blast really wasnt global warming but a freak of nature.]]
A quick look through recent history going back decades shows that arctic blasts have always happened ,will always happen and will be simply a fact of life as we know it- Arctic blasts are nothign new- nor surprising, nor unexpected— The thing is we’ve been fortunate to have not had many in the last decade or so- but it was not unusual to see several arctic blasts throughout the winter- now we’re getting back to normal and everyone is freaking out?
> U.S. cold snap was a freak of nature not global warming quick analysis finds <
The author is obviously one of those evil climate-change deniers. Because EVERYTHING bad that happens is caused by Global Warming.
Crop failures, hurricanes, political unrest, typos on a Free Republic post - all are caused by Global Warming.
The author needs to be sent to a reeducation camp, and pronto.

BS- i watch the weather every winter- and there is always a ‘cold swath’ that blankets the upper parts of the country- hell- years ago it dropped well south- ruining crops=- this happens every decade or so- We also regularly get what’s known as ‘alberta clippers’ that drop severe cold stormy weather in the US- How the hell do they figure we only get cold once every 250 years?
So dang sick of the blatant flat out lies coming from the left! They are preying on the gullible- convincing them that man is ruining the earth- Scum- Every last one of them!
Well here comes another freak and all in the last two weeks.
It is 67 degrees here now. 40 miles away it is 34 and headed this way at about 30 mph.
Less than 90 miles away it is 29 right now.
They are talking about a cold snap with similar regional coverage on a similar date, they are not saying cold snaps only occur once every 250 yrs.
