~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: United States Army Soldier Systems Center, Natick, Massachusetts

natick2

The United States Army Soldier Systems Center (SSC) is a military research complex and installation in Natick, Massachusetts charged by the U.S. Department of Defense with the research and development (including fielding and sustainment) of food, clothing, shelters, airdrop systems, and other servicemember support items for the U.S. military.

natick3

The SSC includes facilities designed to research and test both materials (textiles, combat rations), advanced technologies and human performance (human research volunteers) under simulated environmental extremes (altitude, heat, cold, wind, etc.).

The requirement for improved combat rations has led to groundbreaking developments in the field of food irradiation and freeze-drying techniques. Improved body armor, new military parachuting technology, and enhanced military garments designed for a variety of environments are all ongoing efforts.

natick4

The objectives of the SSC are:

Develop new technology.

Invest in the continuous development and provide quality of life for our workforce.

Advance, assess and apply emerging technology.

Create a collaborative environment between government, academia and industry on behalf of the Soldier.

natick5

Some of the units at the SSC include the Installation Management Command, the Clothing and Textile Research Facility, the Natick Army Labs, the Camouflage Evaluation Facility or the Thermal and Flame Laboratory.

Dang the luck! You need snow, not rain!

We need rain, not snow, but it looks like we’re going to get a dose in the morning. Might be a little sooner, looking at the radar loop.

Supposed to be in the 50s this weekend. Come on, Saturday! LOL

Nope, didn’t have to go anywhere today, and I’m darn sure not getting out tomorrow...that I know of. I’ll bet Peaches will want to stay in tonight, too. In fact, I’ll probably insist on it. Hope that Ghost will be in his hidey-hole in the shed.

I am officially frazzled. I think I’ve entered everything I can enter, and sent emails to those who need to fix something so I can enter time.

So, I am off for home...stopping for food.

Whew! It’s good there wasn’t something you HAD to do today. I hope the wind dies down soon.

Insisting on Peaches staying in tonight sounds like a good plan. Too bad Ghost won’t wise up and realize being a tame kitteh has some nifty benefits, like getting to be inside a toasty warm house this time of year.

I wish he would too. Sometimes when I open the back door to feed him, he’s close enough to look longingly into the warm kitchen, but then he scruries away from me so I can put his food out. sigh

I’ve been watching the starry night again in JH. Breathtaking!

He needs to see you interacting with Peaches and Ginger, especially them walking up to you outside. He’d see you aren’t a threat. If he happens to see Peaches or Ginger in the kitchen would be good too. Anything and everything to make him want to be your baby too. :-)

I’ve had the cam up for the MN eagle nest, watching mice scurrying around on the snow-covered nest eating leftovers from an eagle’s lunch. FAT lil meeses they are too. LOL
