'New California' movement seeks to divide the Golden State in half

Two men have launched a campaign to divide rural California from the coastal cities, motivated by what they referred to as a “tyrannical form of government,” that doesn’t follow the state or federal constitution, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Unlike the failed 2016 campaign to split California into 6 states, the “New California” movement, founded by Robert Paul Preston and Tom Reed, seeks to consolidate rural California into a dinstinct economy separate from the coast.

Preston and Reed say the citizens of the state live “under a tyrannical form of government that does not follow the California and U.S. Constitutions.”

The "founders" have evoked Article IV Section 3 of the United States Constitution as justification for establishing a new economy with a new state constitution.

That would give California 4 senators.

In the case of ‘New California’, it would likely end up with two GOP guys (I do agree, it might create a RINO or two).

The bigger question here is the attitude around the US states where regions are deeply divided.

Take Oregon. The real Democratic base is the northwest part of the state (around Medford and Portland). The entire eastern part of the state and south part along the coast? Mostly leaning toward the GOP. The real population around the state though...is mostly centered on Portland and four other significant cities....which are urban-magnets for Democrats. The state really ought to be into at least two states...maybe even three.

Take Virginia. If you took away voting numbers in Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria...the state would typically be around 60-percent GOP, with Norfolks and Richmond being the Democratic base in this scenario. But the bulk of the rest of the state is solid GOP.

It would serve us all well to redefine the mission and purpose of Senators....allowing only one per state, and allowing states to split into two or more states, if voted upon.

Bingo...and that means that 49 other states will oppose this proposal.

Reminds of those earthquake disaster movies where you get this big split right up from Baja.

Which might just happen any day...

Escape from California anyone? Calling Snake Plisken!

One of these county’s should declare themselves a gun owners sanctuary county and not follow any of the state gun laws. they can default to federal gun laws. That would make Liberals heads explode all over the country!!

I guess if I were more energetic I could look up how there came to be "North" and "South" states, and if there ever was a whole entity "Carolina", "Dakota".

East California and West California. Hmmm...

The Marxist hellholes must become protectorates. These people obviously are incapable of governing themselves.

Umm... No!

Trading the slavery of NorCal from Los Angeles County to the new masters of San Diego and Orange Counties? No.

Admittedly, slightly better flag idea than the State of Jefferson, but with the demographic shifts of Orange & San Diego counties, it'd be two more solid blue senators in a very short time.

At least this map makes sense grouping counties together that actually have commonality with each other. Yes, I do dislike leaving most of the southern reaches of the central valley out of it, but realistically, a more compact region makes the most sense.

It'd have it's own challenges, especially with Roseville, Redding and Chico, but I think we can handle it.
