Trump’s 2020 Census May Cost California Congressional Seat by Counting Citizens
Breitbart ^ | 17 Jan 2018 | CHRISS W. STREET

Democrats fear the Trump administration’s re-reinstatement of citizenship questions on the 2020 U.S. Census will cost California a Congressional seat and billions in funding.

The number of U.S. House of Representative seats was fixed by law in 1911 at 435. The “enumeration” requires at that each state have at least one Representative, and the other Representatives are allocated according to population as determined by the U.S. Census every ten years. Based on the 2010 Census data, California received the most, at 53.

But Politico reports that could change with the Department of Justice sending a letter on December 12 to the Census Bureau asking that the citizenship question eliminated in 2010 during the Obama administration be reinstated for the 2020 Census.

According to the Justice Department’s General Counsel, Arthur E. Gary, “This data is critical to the Department’s enforcement of Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and its important protections against racial discrimination in voting.” He added, “To fully enforce those requirements, the Department needs a reliable calculation of the citizen voting-age population in localities where voting rights violations are alleged or suspected.”

Pikers. NYS has lost almost half its House seats over the last 5 decades.

By the people’s republik of kalifornia’s own numbers, 25% are non-citizens. That could be a loss of 14 electoral votes as well as 14 house seats in the PRK.

Every time California, New York or Illinois loses a Congressional seat, and angel gets it’s wings.

Recently, I read that in Los Angeles County alone, if the Census had differentiated between citizens and non-citzens the last time the Census was taken, and only bona fide citizen numbers used to determine Congressional Districts, that the result would have been the loss of six seats.

That is why they are talking about splitting CA into three states, that way they would get 6 senators, with only 2 of them maybe being conservative, and an increase in congressional seats.

Just compare the 2020 census with the previous one....get a big list of illegals for deportation.

Representatives are allocated by population of people living in a state—not citizens. I cannot see how asking for citizenship, which was done until Obama took over can cost a state Representatives. Now, federal funding, maybe.

Wouldn't it be great if they lost Compton? But, I think demographically auntie maxi is safe there.

In the bigger picture though, NY, MN and So Florida would also lose some clout.

Likely baked in on POTUS’ planning. All the deportations+ICE/DHS sweeps and enforcement has to already be putting pressure on Cali’s numbers.

Could be extrapolated to IL and NY and......???

Could downstate/outstate communities and counties sue the major sanctuary cities within their states on tax grounds, since those not in the sanctuary cities pay in taxation &/or *equalized valuation* property tax rates for illegals and illegal activity? Taxation w/o representation?

zer0’s nefarious plot to site illegals/*refugees*/minorities in areas otherwise populated by citizens was obviously aimed at election manipulation and the small locales have been unduly burdened, IMO. Don’t know if this can be litigated.

I'm in California and it's just fine with me, I think our representation should be based on Citizens, not non voting residents and especially not illegals.

If someone wants a voice in the way a state is run they should become citizens and voters or shut up and/or get out.

Census respondent can still lie, but at least the question is being asked. And lying on the form has legal consequences.

How could the refugees placed throughout the US influence election results? I don’t make the connection. Even though a lot of “refugees” from sh*thole countries were let in, I don’t see the numbers being big enough to alter an election.

It’s a step in the right direction. But who’s going to check when illegals say they’re citizens on the form? They’ll probably be encouraged to do so by the CA Rats.

“I cannot see how asking for citizenship, which was done until Obama took over can cost a state Representatives.”

It won’t - directly. However, it is anticipated many illegal aliens will be hesitant to complete the census forms if they fear they will be located and deported by self identifying as non-citizens. It is interesting to look at the census results from 2010 compared to 2000 - and the large increase in states most subject to illegal immigration. Did Obama’s change result in a lot more illegal immigrants completing the census? Most likely.
