WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Defense is planning a military parade at the request of President Donald Trump, White House and Pentagon officials said Tuesday.
After observing the Bastille Day celebrations in Paris last year, Mr. Trump said he wanted to hold a similar parade on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, perhaps to celebrate the Fourth of July.
The French parade last July, which also marked the centennial of the U.S. entry into World War I, featured more than 6,000 service members, tanks and planes overhead in an elaborate display of military might. French President Emmanuel Macron invited Mr. Trump to watch the parade beside him.
“It was one of the greatest parades I’ve ever seen,” Mr. Trump said in September at the Lotte New York Palace hotel. “And to a large extent, because of what I witnessed, we may do something like that on July Fourth in Washington, down Pennsylvania Avenue. I don’t know. We’re going to have to try and top it.”
The Washington Post first reported the Mr. Trump had asked the Pentagon to arrange an event in the Bastille Day style. Pentagon officials said late Tuesday that plans were in their infancy.
On Wednesday, the chairman of the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joe Dunford, acknowledged the parade plans while traveling in Asia. “I’m aware of the president’s request and we are in the initial planning stages to meet the president’s direction,” he said during a stop in Bangkok.
The White House said the decision demonstrated Mr. Trump’s support for the military.

General Jack Keane was just asked on Fox News about the parade idea. He’s of course against it but said if the president wants a parade the Pentagon will give him one. He also talked about the military discharging anyone who’s not deplorable. This was the case when I was in and they need to go back to it. It’s simple, if you’re not able to go overseas and be ready to fight you shouldn’t be in the military. Of course this requirement can be waived for those wounded in combat and are now disabled from losing legs or arms. Hopefully this new deployment requirement will get rid of drag queens who are taking all sorts of medications as a result of their “transition”. Trump wants them gone. They should be.

This morning General Kean said we don’t do parades, we train to fight not train for parades. Let Russia, China, France & N. Korea do parades. But if the president wants a parade the military will give him a parade. He also said the idea for the parade came from President Trump watching the French parade.

Pentagon should do a parade down Pennsylvania Ave on Armed Forces Day. It could be a yearly event.

would not be a celebration honoring the brave countrymen & women that are at the core of the military?

If America did what we did after World War I, enforced the Monroe doctrine and withdrew our occupation forces when they were not longer needed, we would have had 30 years to build the most effective and efficient military the world has ever seen.
But we have been bloated, and slow. We decided on arms based on their congressional district, not on need.
Parading around like some Gilbert and Sullivan Modern Major General will cause us to be the worlds laughing stock.
