Comedian Jim Carrey urges people to delete their Facebook accounts and dump the stock
CNBC ^ | 2/6/2018 | michelle Castillo

Jim Carrey is quitting Facebook and dumping his stock — and is urging everyone else to do so as well.

"We must encourage more oversight by the owners of these social media platforms," Jim Carrey said in a statement to CNBC. "This easy access has to be more responsibly handled. What we need now are activist investors to send a message that responsible oversight is needed. What the world needs now is capitalism with a conscience."

The comedian tweeted on Tuesday he was selling his Facebook shares and deleting his page because the company profited from Russian interference during the 2016 U.S. election. He asked all "other investors who care about our future to do the same."

You may think you can delete it, but I believe when you set up an account, the fine prints states that FB retains all content even after you delete it. Forever.

A more accurate term would be “suspend it”.

There is a way to do it and it’s on their FAQ. Easy to deactivate but to delete is little more involved.
Once you start the process they claim it will take up to 90 days to finish it. My guess is they make tough so they can claim X number of users for advertising purposes and other things.

I am getting ready to Delete in a few days. I put up a post of impending deletion so that folks will know and have a chance to get in touch with me for a alternative way to get to me, if they are so inclined. So far most aren’t.

I have read of companies pulling off Facebook in advertising for lack of any real results.

maybe Jim Carrey should have been more responsible about spreading his various venereal diseases to so many actresses, one of whom took her own life over it.

What APP are you talking about? Facebook is a website. Not an application.

For 10 years now, I've had an anonymous FB page so I can access my high school class reunion group FB page.

It's not under my real name or email address.

I don't post anything to the page myself and don't have any friends. No photos. No timeline. No personal information at all.

I only log on to it when I want to access my class reunion group. There's nothing for anybody to see or read.

FB has never contacted me about closing the page from inactivity or lack of information on the page.

Or, we could enjoy a beautiful, Jim Carrey-free Facebook.

For all the wrong reasons. When it comes to mindless stupidity, leftists are nothing if not consistent.

Jim Carrey drove his girlfriend to suicide.

Normally I would not make such a statement, since there can be so many things that affect a person’s mental states, but in that case she wrote it rather clearly that he had given her STDs and refused to take any responsibility, treated her as disposable, and in the end she felt completely disposable in her life.

Jim Carrey is probably tired of people slamming him on Facebook over how he treated his drug addicted girlfriend that took her own life.

Especially since he was probably the drug source.

Sounds like you know more about the case than I do. I’d heard that she changed the dates on documents to make it look like events happened in a certain order. What was that all about?

It's like those record clubs back in the day.

You have to fake your own death and live out the rest of your life under an assumed identity.

He’s unhappy that Facebook is not being enough of a censor of speech, and that means, apparently, speech he thinks should not be supported by our Liberty.

He wants a “safe” place for all the snowflakes.

If Jim would stop and think this through, Russia was an activist investor in fakebook. Jim doesn’t like their investment angle. Jim actually wants censorship.
I’m sure he watches MSNBC raptly.

Sam was not a mean guy. I met him one night at a Houston comedy club. My buddy and I were sitting on the front row. My buddies dad had become “confused” as far as if he liked gals or guys. Sam made the mistake of telling my friend he look kind of gay. Suddenly my buddy and Sam are rolling around on the floor having the funniest drunken fight I’ve ever seen. At some point Sam starts laughing and my buddy starts laughing and Sam starts yelling “pu$$ies, we are both pu$$ies!”. He jumped back in stage, we drank more afterwards with Sam.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was when one night Sam pissed off the club owner and got thrown out of the place. Sam went across the street to a 7-11, climbed up its sign and “crucified” himself yelling stuff like “look what they did to me”. The cops showed up and the club owner let Sam back in to the club. This was all before he was famous.

When I was in my teens and 20’s I kept running in to famous people at random. I used to hang out with Chris Cross before he became famous and Gino Vanelli who was and is an incredible talent. Another really nice comedian I met was Buddy Hackett, he was a very sweet man. I met Phyllis Diller once when I was very young, she was actually a beautiful woman at that time. Met Ann Margaret in the 70’s and she was stunning. I chatted with Bob Hope and once sat next to Barbara Jordan on a plane. She was captivating. I got drunk once in the Rainbow Room with Estelle Gettleman AKA Estelle Getty who was on Golden Girls. She was the funniest and most foul mouthed woman I’ve ever met. Jay Leno is funnier in person. Hank Williams Jr. Is broody. Maybe I should start a thread “famous people I have met”. Lol.

Yes, he’s right even about the Russian collusion thingy. Of course, it was Hillary’s peeps (the folks that wanted to implicate Trump’s peeps for colluding with the Russians) that were colluding with the Russians to get Trump out of the race, and then out of the White house. But that’s not the way he tells it, I’m sure.
