Here's a List of School Districts That Already Allow Teachers to Be Armed

In the aftermath of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, President Trump has repeatedly proposed hardening schools by allowing teachers to carry firearms in their classrooms. This doesn't mean teachers would be forced to do so, but those willing to go through training and take on the responsibility should have the option.

The proposal has been met with praise and criticism from many, but it should be noted this isn't a new or alien concept. School districts around the country already have polices allowing teachers to carry firearms, enabling them to combat a violent threat should one show up on campus.

Texas, where 110 school districts have armed teachers and administrators:

Oklahoma

New signs posted on the grounds of Okay Public Schools announce an "Armed School Employees" policy in place.

The Okay Public Schools Board of Education passed an “Armed School Employees” policy in August. On Monday, the district publicized that policy with signage in front of the school.

“The signs are more or less a deterrent,” Superintendent Charles McMahan said. “We don't want to be a soft target.”

McMahan said his administration looks for ways to keep students safe and secure, particularly since the Okay Police Department was disbanded in December 2014. Although Wagoner County sheriff's deputies are available, McMahan said it is “seconds, not minutes, that matter.”

Colorado:

A rural Colorado school district decided Wednesday night to allow its teachers and other school staff to carry guns on campus to protect students.

The Hanover School District 28 board voted 3-2 to allow school employees to volunteer to be armed on the job after undergoing training.

The district’s two schools serve about 270 students about 30 miles southeast of Colorado Springs, and it takes law enforcement an average of 20 minutes to get there. The district currently shares an armed school resource officer with four other school districts.

Etc.

These are a handful of examples, there are many more. Further, 18 states allow adults with carry permits to be armed on campus so long as they get proper approval from school officials.

-Alabama (which bans possessing a weapon on school grounds only if the carrier has "intent to do bodily harm") -California (with approval of the superintendent) -Connecticut (with approval of "school officials") -Hawaii (no specific law) -Idaho (with school trustees' approval) -Iowa (with "authorization") -Kentucky (with school board approval) -Massachusetts (with approval of the school board or principal) -Mississippi (with school board approval) -Montana (with school trustees' permission)

-New Hampshire (ban applies only to pupils, not adults) -New Jersey (with approval from the school's "governing officer") -New York (with the school's approval) -Oregon (with school board approval) -Rhode Island (with a state concealed weapons permit) -Texas (with the school's permission) -Utah (with approval of the "responsible school administrator") -Wyoming (as long as it's not concealed)

For those outraged over President Trump backing armed teachers and personnel in schools, a number of districts are already doing it in Utah, Texas, Colorado, etc.— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) February 21, 2018

Well, there’s no point, because pistol bullets are too slow.

MSNBC said it, so it must be true.

Some places/some schools figured this out a very long time ago...

Seems to have been effective.

Not only can teachers Conceal Carry here in Utah, so can ANY CCW holder. There is no law requiring a CCW holder to inform the school that they are carrying. Beleive me, everybody I know carries here.

Our rural Missouri school has had some of its teachers trained and armed since 2012. It is working out well.

My understanding is that Chicago is a gun free zone. How dare those thugs use guns against unarmed civilians. Unarmed civilians are expected to wait patiently for law enforcement to come.

The same law enforcement officers that are call names, spit on, and called racists daily. The same law enforcement officer who are never expected to defend themselves, or use deadly force.

LOL. O’Donnell is math challenged. Even if he knew the correct speeds (he doesn’t) at 30 feet, the time difference would be less than 1/10,000 of a second. Idiot.

It might be a gun free zone, but not for the criminals. Look how many blacks get killed with guns by other blacks. Also remember who the mayor is.

Most teachers have already killed their own children at least once (paid for it to boot!), and fight tooth and nail for others to have the ‘right’ to murder with impunity.

With that kind of selfish disregard for the most innocent among us, they should never be allowed to teach a class, much be armed in a classroom.

Only real women should pack heat in the classroom and/or in the school (if they are administrators or maintenance).

Lincoln said, “’tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”

MSNBC, if pistol bullets are too slow, let the teachers carry M16s and Uzis. And if one of them goes psycho, the other teachers will take him out, unless they all go psycho simultaneously together. That happens all the time. Sure. F@#$ you, f@#$ your fake arguments, and f@#$ your phony agenda.

“”Never forget the islamic terrorist attack on the school in Breslan, Russia””

Beslan, Russia..are the only two words that need to be said each and every time something like the FL school shootings happen. After Beslan, there is no call for this country or any country/child or parent to have to go through such a thing again.

I love the idea of signs being posted that personnel at schools are armed. Why not? Whether true or not. Signs are posted on fences to beware of dangerous dogs - whether true or not.

I don’t like that some school boards have to give approval for any teacher to be armed. No offense to school board members here but I wouldn’t trust them to make a correct decision about anything - too much politics involved in their jobs and they are always looking at greener pastures in the political arena.

Liberals should be asked point blank why the lives of politicians, celebrities, banks and jewelry and diamond store employees are more important than our kids?

Its obvious some lives are more equal than others.

How about a list of school districts that HAD SCHOOLTEACHERS WITH GUNS IN THE CLASSROOM AND LATER ON STOPPED THEM FROM HAVING GUNS IN THE CLASSROOM? It was commonplace to see armed schoolmarms here in the schools 2 centuries ago.
We had teachers with guns here in the first schools/classrooms 217 years ago- then the practice stopped. Who stopped them and why? The guns were taken away from teachers here sometime prior to 1874.
Thus one can see that the same SOB people are back after 200 years to take guns away from us again.
