Donald Trump: Police Should Have Taken Guns From Florida Shooter ‘Whether They Had The Right Or Not’
Huffpost ^ | 2/28/18 | Paige Lavender

President Donald Trump criticized police for not doing more to prevent a mass shooting at a Florida high school, arguing they should have taken the shooter’s guns away “whether they had the right or not.”

During a bipartisan meeting with lawmakers on gun control Thursday, Trump suggested guns should be taken away “immediately from people that you can judge easily are mentally ill,” alluding to the Florida shooter, who had undergone a psychiatric evaluation in 2016 but was ultimately not hospitalized.

“The police saw that he was a problem, they didn’t take any guns away,” Trump said. “Now that could have been policing, but they should have taken them away anyway, whether they had the right or not.”

He doubled down on the claim later in the meeting after Vice President Mike Pence spoke about due process and giving local law enforcement more leeway to obtain a court order to collect firearms from potentially dangerous people.

“Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court, because that’s another system,” Trump said. “A lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early.”

>> If the Sheriff’s office had done their job, he wouldn’t have had guns. He would have had a record.

And if the Sheriff's deputies hadn't been cowards, things would have been greatly different, and more than a few of those 17 kids would probably be alive.

We’re not talking about Randy Weaver, Waco or anything else.

We’re talking about this case. Just to update ya Tabasco, we’re talking about a mental case who has been described by teachers, cops, parents, neighbors, and many others, as a ticking time bomb who was going to detonate.

I’ll put you down as another who is now defending and supporting Cruz’s 2nd Amendment rights.

No they are disagreeing with Trump's comment "whether they had the right or not", that's full on liberal bullshit speak! Trump is 100% right that the sheriff F'd up biggly. Had law enforcement and the school administration acted responsibly Cruz would have been arrested/institutionalized and then they would have been within the law to legally confiscate his weapons and there wouldn't have been any killings, wounded or mental anguish.

If you want to play devils advocate there are plenty of liberal sites that would welcome it.

No your point is clear. You’re defending and supporting Cruz’s right to have guns, regardless of all the red flags, and what was going on with this mental case time bomb,

Agreed. I literally made the statement that I would gladly sacrifice 17 to save a million, but this was no sacrifice:

It was failure of government, top to bottom.

I hazard to guess that Trump has a game-plan; I’m not going to react to rhetoric when he’s engaging politicians...

You don’t actually have to worry about any of this crap if you just let everyone carry who wants to.

Since good guys outnumber bad guys, we’re better off if everyone’s armed.

This just takes the acceptance of reality that bad things can happen, no matter what you do, because there are bad people out there.

And what makes you think government is the source of saints? Bad folks in there too. In fact, bad folks tend to be attracted to power, which is why governments have killed far more people than criminals have.

Get the hell off this board with that thinking. You want cops gun grabbing. What could possibly go wrong. There were plenty of legal things to do with this nut. Gun grabbing is not one of them.

That kid should have been pulled in for a 30 day psych hold and counseling. He would not have had access to his gun. The school shooting would never have happened.

But that’s not reality and that is not going to happen.

I’ll put you down as another who is now defending and supporting Cruz’s 2nd Amendment rights.

And I'll put YOU down as someone who is willing to compromise our 2nd Amendment rights in order to broaden the expanse of government to cover up for their own failures......

Trump is really shooting off his mouth right now. I’m waiting to see what he actually does.

```````````````````
“Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.
Go in, take whatever you need, then get a warrant.
Shoot first, then ask questions.
Sentence first, verdict after. - The Queen of Hearts
No, it is beautiful. Because they are now echoing the Republican line.
Do you not even remember the “Fire and Fury” televised meeting? Trump seemingly had everyone believing he’d sign any immigration bill they slapped on his desk. He didn’t.
Come on. His modus operandi is beautiful to behold. We’re smarter than this—to get worked up over his obvious negotiating tactics.
Really, I'm "willing to compromise our 2nd Amendment rights" because I think the cops should have taken this known time bomb's weapons after dozens of warnings and red flags?
Multitudes of checks and balances were in place from the caretakers, school, mental health workers,local police up to the freaking FBI etc,etc and NOTHING,NOTHING,NOTHING was done. I find that a way more serious societal and institutional problem.
"I know that Trump is just frustrated and venting"
I'm sure that had to be what was going on.
There is always time for due process unless you are either lazy or stupid.
In Florida, a whole bunch of people simply DIDN'T DO THEIR JOBS!
Tell that to the 17 dead kids.
No tell that to our Fore Fathers and the 10 of thousands that have died protecting what were drawn up called the Bill of RIGHTS that contain unalienable rights granted to us by God.
For Trump to make a statement like this is one step forward and three back for me. In no way at does the government, at ANY level, have a right to come into my house and take me or anything of mine without just cause. This violates by fourth amendment rights and if anything President Trump is acting and sounding like a dictator.
I don't like it but I am sure there will be people on here backing him up to the hilt.
Now they have to defend the rights of gun owners' due process!
The left could give a schiff less about the rights of gun owners due process.
Get a grip on yourself and come back to reality. This is NOT charades we are playing here
