He had no business running for reelection last time. It was a shameful and pathetic end for his career.

One last round of pork...
To: jazusamo
He’s 80 y/o. I think it’s time. Hopefully, the GOP has someone ready to step in or run for that seat.
To: jazusamo
But, seriously, I bet the private polling for Wicker is not looking too great and this retirement is something engineered by Barbour & McConnell to help Wicker.

People in MS seem truly uninformed about their choices, but they did vote to keep the Confederate portion on the state flag, something no other state has dared do. And they still call the team The Rebels, didn’t back down on that. They are not too good at picking reliable conservative senators.
To: zerosix
So what happens? Will the Governor appoint someone to fill his term, or will there be a special election?

Now Chris McDaniel may be tempted to switch to run in a special election for the Cochran seat, which does not expire until Jan. 2021.
To: jazusamo
The Bush League Republicans are already lining up another Cheap Labor Express stooge.
They robbed McDaniel of this seat last time rather than let the citizens have any representation.

Chris McDaniel is a MS state senator.
To: theoilpainter
I think the position will be vacant until filled in Novembers general election. So this vile creature (tool of the GOP establishment) does damage to Trumps agenda on his way out. He could have retired effective in calendar year 2017 and had the vacancy filled by a special election,

Wicker is a cousin of the late Fred Thompson; I would imagine he will win his primary easily, considering the regard people in MS have always held for incumbency.
To: Popman
You may well be right, he doesn’t look good.

Good. He should run against Wieker. Appoint a conservative to Corcorans seat and let him win in November.
