My FreeRepublic born on date is 20 years old today, may FR last another 20 years!
Thanks for posting the archive. I don’t post much but I’ve been here since October, 1998. Lurked for several months before signing up. I remember dial up and feeling desperate when it failed. It was 3.1, my first PC.

I can’t recall my oldest screen name either, but it was some time in 1998. I had to change it because it essentially was my actual name.
Back then, I was proud of my comments and didn’t mind people knowing who I was. Until...one day I got a call from a family member who worked for a Democrat. He said he was getting pressure from a person in his office to get me to quit posting about the Clintons. I also got another call from someone in NOVA who claimed to be a reporter and wanted to know what I knew about another Clinton scandal. Valuable lessons learned in early Web forum days.
I was about to call most of the people on this page a bunch of noobs... and then I saw your post. I bow in your general direction, old-timer...

I got fired once for opposing Newt Gingrich for President, but it was a very short banning.
Imagine telling people back then that they would have a computer in their pocket that they loiked at at least five hundred times a day.
All I know is it was a Saturday.
