Trump ousts Tillerson, will replace him as secretary of state with CIA chief Pompeo

President Trump has ousted Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, orchestrating a major change to his national security team amid delicate negotiations with North Korea, White House officials said Tuesday.

Trump last Friday asked Tillerson to step aside, and the embattled top diplomat cut short his trip to Africa on Monday to return to Washington.

It’s possible Tillerson was a compromise pick to make the GOPE happier. Now that things have progressed, and Trump has solidified his position, he is moving into a new phase and getting people in there to clean things up.

Trump inherited a mess on foreign policy, one could be on the ball in every area except one, mess that up and perhaps, that was reason enough to be fired.

Also, a lot of Clinton’s, Joan Kerry’s and Obama’s left wing POS’s are still in the State Department. Former CIA Director Mike Pompeo can start pulling those weeds...

I agree. I'm only disappointed because we need a Mike Pompeo to clean up weeds in a couple of other departments too, and there is only one of him.

And I'll trust that Haspel was a Pompeo recommendation.

Mark Simone just said on 710 AM that SESSIONS could be replaced by a cabinet member who has been confirmed for another position.

People have speculated that Pompeo would be a Sessions replacement. Looks like that's off the table for now.

“Would it be too much to hope the hapless AG Jeff Sessions is requested to step down too?”

Interesting question. This firing does demonstrate that if Trump is unhappy with someone in his cabinet, heads will roll.

Which begs the question...

...if Sessions is NOT asked to resign, is it too much to hope that all the tiresome Sessions bashers could finally put a sock in it and accept the possibility that Trump is happy with Sessions just where he is?

The only person the Dems would vote to confirm as replacement for Sessions would be a Barney Fife type.

If Sessions goes, he’ll be replaced with a recess appointment.

It’s too much to hope because I actually want an AG in there who will fulfill the promise to LOCK HER UP.

I'm not happy with this. Trump looks like a rash amateur with a revolving door cabinet. He publicly feuds with his own cabinet members. He fires someone with the prominence of Tillerson — the former CEO of by some measures the largest company in the world — without couching it as a resignation and, if some accounts are to be believed, not letting him know ahead of time. Shaking things up is one thing. This looks more like amateur hour.

It is the prerogative of the President to hire and fire in whatever manner he desires.

"As someone who worked in the State Department for 28 years, I would not be so quick to go after Tillerson. The State bureaucracy had a target on Tillerson’s back from the day he was announced to be the next SecState. There is a huge resistance movement in State that has been undermining him from Day One. Tillerson was trying to reduce the size of the State Department. The employee unions within State have been openly antagonistic against him. Pompeo had better understand that he will be the next target."

With that said and thank you for the backdrop, as many have reported ( especially CTH ) we have Kerry-Clinton and State involved in the "Collusion" story. How will that effect morale, careers, and will it take someone who is not afraid to have people walked out because of their involvement and more downsizing's etc. I would have thought Rex could handle it, perhaps Pompeo is not afraid to step on toes and from the interviews I have seen of him it seems to be the case.

I wonder if we need someone who will really get it done, i.e. a culture change. No one got the dynamics of saving face and mocking little-nuke-boy and getting him to the table.

What the heck did we pay these people for all these years? Pres. Trump could and they couldn't?

Pompeo will be the right man to deal with North Korea.

Of course ,what reason could he possibly have to fire an employee that publicly contradicts you on every important issue? Trump was very vocal about the Iran Nuke treaty, Tillerson publicly called for staying in that disaster. He also called for talks with the Norks, Trump said no it was a waste of time, likely the tariffs were also a deal breaker.

Trump did the right thing here, the man thought Trump was a moron.

I’ll trust that Haspel was a Pompeo recommendation.

That is a safe bet. She was hated by Obama and Brennan and the insane MSM hates her.

But you're not in charge. And I voted for Trump, not Tillerson or anyone else. If Trump thinks someone needs to be fired, I'm good with it. No problem.☺

Hmm
Tillerson speaks out on Russia.
Trump is mad.
Trump fires Tillerson.

Wonder what blackmail Russia has on Trump. Definitely a strong possibility.

This would explain the love fest between Trump and Russia.

Maybe they should call for an investigation and spend years chasing it to see where it leads? Oh wait, they already did that!
