Somebody should tell him the Air Force already has Space Command. It might not stay with Air Force, just like the Army Air Corps did not stay with the Army.
The Air Force is all about missions that last a few hours at most, then back to base.
The Navy is more culturally compatible with missions involving having to get people living together in a cramped ship for weeks or months.

The United States Space Force (USSF) is the space warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. Initially made up of various commands under the US Air Force, Navy and Army, the USSF was formed as a separate branch of the military on 30 November 2051 under the Space Security Act of 2051. It is the most recent branch of the U.S. military to be formed, and is world's only space force, as well as the largest and one of the world's most technologically advanced air forces. The Space Force also commands its own specialized

I recently viewed the pilot episode of “Lost in Space” from the 1960’s.
Set in the late 1990’s, Major Don West (Mark Goddard) mentioned that he was in the U.S. Space Force.

This guy’s thinking is definitely towards the future. A sure fire sign he’s not a lib.

I love it! Live long and prosper, Captain Kirk! There is a Captain James Kirk in the Navy right now, he commands the USS Zumwalt. The next Navy carrier bearing the name 'Enterprise' will be completed in 2020, if I remember correctly.
Oh please oh please oh please :-)

We already have a space program. Will this new force be an extension of the USAF? Just get us there, and give it to us.

Maybe we’re not alone? Maybe the planet is in a bad place in the galaxy? Are we going to get caught up in something? Having the most satellites with the best gear is one thing. Is he talking about space-going warships with space-going Marines? Because if that’s the case, then we’re not alone.
