I have a paper from WWII, from one of my uncles, in his collection of WWII items.
It is dated 19 August, 1945.
It is from his unit commander, a Colonel H.F. Cunnigham, from Fifth Air Force, USAAC. He wrote this to men as they were getting ready to step into the conquered Japanese homeland.
He says "For the Future, we must hold what we have won at such cost of blood, treasure, and sustained effort. The PACIFIC OCEAN must remain what it is now - AN AMERICAN LAKE, just as American and just as purely and singly American as Cayuga Lake in New York, Cass Lake in Minnesota, Great Salt Lake in Utah... A PACIFIC OCEAN dotted with American-held Air and Naval bases will be just such a lake and will justify - for the first time in history - it's Peace-implying name."
There is more to it, but the idea, to me, is the same as space.
What we CAN do, we SHOULD do, and do it SO WELL that no one can threaten us.
Now, THAT is loaded! Great piece, Thanks for posting it.
Well said.
We call them space ships right?
Ship means its Department of the Navy.
That means the Space Troops will be Marines.
Noticed President Trump mentioned it to the U.S. Marines at Miramar?
Thats the way it will go.
Its a GREAT idea.
Does he? Regardless, why do we need a new branch with more overhead, more bureaucracy, more budgetary infighting, more costs? Why not let the Air Force handle it?
We went to the Moon because WE COULD, and no one else could.
And on 1960s technology, at that...
It’s worth doing.
As long as we don’t don’t send Scott Bakula and Cooter out in the first ship.
Bakula played it way too wimpy, that’s for sure. An early first Captain would’ve needed balls of steel. Trumpian type. Alas, we only get this SJW crap that would’ve ignited an interstellar war before they made it past Uranus. The good news, though, is that those a$$holes would’ve been torpedoed in short order.
Well, he wasn’t a good enough actor to overcome it but it wasn’t his fault that the writing blew, Rick Berman is a moron who blew a great premise (with Voyager too).
