Craigslist has yanked its personal ads section in the wake of an anti-online sex trafficking bill that passed in Congress this week.
The Allow States and Victims to Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act, or FOSTA, makes websites criminally liable for content that its users post, including prostitution ads and sex-trafficking content.
Craigslist — whose personals include bawdy categories such as casual encounters — said it pulled ads because it wasn’t worth running afoul of the new law.
“Any tool or service can be misused,” the website said in a statement. “We can’t take such risk without jeopardizing all our other services, so we are regretfully taking craigslist personals offline. Hopefully we can bring them back some day.”
It added, “To the millions of spouses, partners, and couples who met through craigslist, we wish you every happiness!”

That has the potential to shut down all dating sites. Or at least make them more expensive, if every post has to be reviewed.
Where’s the police going to run their sting operations? I’ve got a former co-worker whose wife died a couple of years ago. He got desperate and answered an add for a prostitute. The police then introduced underage prostitutes. And he didn’t have the sense to run. He’s now charged with child trafficking and they have completely upended his life.

A year after my mom passed away my 81 year old clueless father decided he would look on craigslist personal. We warned him to stay away from it but he thought he was so much smarter. After a young lady sent naked pictures did he realize he wasn’t so smart.
Don’t feel bad. I have dyslexia too.

I like the ones with really specific requirements. Like ‘tall’ ‘40 or younger’ ‘muscular’ ‘good job’ etc etc etc. But list absolutely NOTHING about the poster.
