Perhaps this Pope should revisit scripture.

Clearly Dante’s vision of Hell is not accurate, yet the Pope should always footnote a remark like this with a reference to the Bible verse(s).

Is the Pope Catholic?

If no Hell exists then sin is no big deal. It unravels everything.

Hopefully, this comment was incorrectly quoted or badly taken out of context, since Our Lord himself has said otherwise.

If our Pope has trouble finding the quotes within the New Testament, I would be happy to help him locate the scriptural references.

While the symbolism in Revelation seems to point to hell being a lake of fire, I have always wondered if hell for the sinner is being in the presence of the glory of God. Moses’ hair was turned white from a brief encounter where God appeared as a burning bush and Moses’ had favor in the lord. Imagine what would happen to a sinner to be in the full presence of the Father.

Anyone who professes to know God and His word knows that if there is no hell or the devil then there is no God.

Amended by CNS:
* In a statement released on Mar. 29, after Scalfari’s report garnered worldwide attention, the Vatican said:

“The Holy Father Francis recently received the founder of the newspaper La Repubblica in a private meeting on the occasion of Easter, without however giving him any interviews. What is reported by the author in today’s article [in La Repubblica] is the result of his reconstruction, in which the textual words pronounced by the Pope are not quoted. No quotation of the aforementioned article must therefore be considered as a faithful transcription of the words of the Holy Father.”

So: this was not an interview (!) and Scalfari reconstructed the conversation from memory

Lots of evidence for God in existence, but none whatsoever for a devil until humans begin to abstract him from within their own minds.

If no Hell exists then sin is no big deal. It unravels everything.

Where is Hell located exactly? How big is it? What's the current population? If Hell is a place then all that should be easy to answer.

Hell is not a place, it's a condition. Hell is, by definition, a state of definitive exclusion from communion with God and those blessed enough to enjoy his presence. There is nothing theologically wrong with Pope Frances’ statement. Hell is not a place, it is a condition. It is eternal separation from God. The idea of Hell as a locale is no more valid than the idea of Heaven as a locale.

If Frankie doesn't believe that there is a hell, then chances are he doesn't believe in Jesus.

Well, Frankie is not the Church.

Ya know he really got into the wrong line of work. Marxist politician would suit him better. Was he set up to be pope by George Soros?

And who forced Benedict to resign?
