24 million could skip Census because of citizenship question: Report
The Washington Times ^ | March 30, 2018 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 03/30/2018 9:24:37 AM PDT by jazusamo

The man who ran the 2000 census for the Clinton administration predicted Friday that more than 24 million people may refuse to take part in the 2020 count now that the survey is going to ask about citizenship status.

Robert Shapiro, who was under secretary at the Commerce Department during the 2000 count, called the decision to ask about citizenship “dangerous.”

He predicted 6.8 million illegal immigrants will duck the count altogether, as would about half of the 8.8 million legal residents who live in a household with an illegal immigrant present. The other half, he said, will likely lie and claim the illegal immigrants are citizens, further distorting the count.

~snip~

Mr. Shapiro said the losses could cost immigrant-heavy states such as California and Texas seats in Congress, while poor states that rely heavily on government assistance programs such as Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky and West Virginia would suffer the loss of funding.

Why is Shapiro saying it's a dangerous question now?

I haven't got a clue except maybe because he's a RAT.

I am failing to see the downside of this.

Indeed.

Taking the concept a bit farther, if you live in a blue county there's no upside to being counted. If you live in a red county, try to get yourself counted along with the complete set of however many multiple personalities you may have.

Every little bit helps

(Knock knock).

Mr. Gonzales? There were no census forms for 27 people living at this address. And the 15 that did respond didn’t complete the citizenship question.

(Sounds of multiple people scattering)

As I understand things Trump will have the citizenship question on the Census Short Form.

The Census Long Form only goes to a small percent of the population

Not that small a percentage. This is from the official 2000 Census blurb -

On average, about 1 in every 6 households will receive the long form.

They’ll just lie and say they are citizens. They are already breaking the law by being in the country illegally, so I assume they will have no problem breaking the law by lying on the census.

Falsifying information on the US Census form is in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001.

Do that Mr. or Mrs. Ilegal, and you're found out, you've just gotten a free pass back to Me-Hee-Co courtesy of the Trump Administration.

Arrest ALL invading criminal illegals. Seize their assets to help offset costs.

So the compost just admitted to the real number of illegal aliens in the US. Nice to know. Let’s herd ‘em all to Kali - they love them there.

“Obama and Clinton judges are probably writing their ‘cease and desist’ orders now”

Leave there be no doubt.

With immigration laws being enforced and illegals being deported, all the horror stories about it in the media- the fear level of illegals is rising daily. Add to that a government form where they are asked about citizenship. Most will not participate thinking ICE will be following the census takers, no matter who is telling them it won’t be used for that.

They could simply answer yes, but most will go to great lengths to avoid the census taker. Fear of deportation will do that.

I’ve never been visited by a census taker.

I was a census counter in Miami-Dade County just after Castro took over Cuba. I'd guess that hundreds (overall) never came to answer the door. Food was burning on the stove at one place I was to check.

I was a naïve yout at the time, later finding an elderly NY census taker had finished his assigned addresses 1½ months before I did. (We had abutting areas). He continued with a hospital pallor, while I had a tan and had lost weight. I later deduced that he had filled in fake results at home—receiving the same 25₵ for each address I did, for actually knocking on doors—even doing return-visits.

Decades later, I got a visit from the Census (actually two census takers at the same time). It was the Census following a time I reported myself and 10 family members were Mestizo tribe members from Mexico, living in a tiny Florida house. All fakery, of course, but I thought I'd have some fun with them.
