Michael Cohen drops libel lawsuits against Buzzfeed, Fusion GPS

"

President Trump's private lawyer, Michael Cohen, on Wednesday dropped a pair of lawsuits against media outlet Buzzfeed and private investigation firm Fusion GPS that claimed libel after Buzzfeed published the Trump dossier, which detailed possible ties between President Trump and Russia.

"The decision to voluntarily discontinue these cases was a difficult one," Cohen's attorney David Schwartz said, according to Politico. "We believe the defendants defamed my client, and vindicating Mr. Cohen’s rights was, and still remains, important. But given the events that have unfolded, and the time, attention, and resources needed to prosecute these matters, we have dismissed the matters, despite their merits."

Cohen abandoned the lawsuits after his office, home, and hotel room were raided by the FBI as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into his conduct as Trump’s “fix-it” man.

By dropping the lawsuits, Cohen could avoid being questioned by lawyers from Fusion GPS or being required to turn over evidence related to the case, which could weaken his defense in the criminal investigation. "

This Deep State needs to go. Replace all the institutions with something that will accept mercurial autocracy, crackpot conspiracy theories, and a Tom Hagen type lawyers. That will make America Great Again.

Trump should have fired all democratic appointed U.S Attorneys , like Clinton did. It is still not too late to fire them.

It appears that Cohen is cutting deals to protect his own derriére. He will maneuver/be maneuvered into betraying Trump on false or insignificant charges that then will be trumpeted by the whole Leftist universe as the grounds whereby Trump must be impeached or even arrested in his White house office. athe likelihood is that Trump will let the nuclear explosion of righteous anger and hate roll on then win points in the end.

This guy Cohen is a glorified real estate lawyer who no doubt aided real estate magnate Trump navigate the polluted and corrupt currents of New York construction and zoning regulations. No doubt there is some “illegality” in those dealings. The Swamp wants to destroy Trump any way they can. Cohen is not a stand up guy. He is not a Sicilian.

I think it really does come down to the cost of lawfare.

That’s shy big government is so dangerous. Now, they target individuals to find crimes rather that looking for crimes and finding the criminals. They have inexhaustible resources and power. Civil rights have been severely eroded as in this case of lost attorney client privilege.

Cohen's move actually protects the President.

The suit would have opened Cohen up for discovery.

How did Cohen know the FBI was going to raid his office and home? He called his liberal ass neighbor in the trump building to warn him about “THE FIRE” before hand..how did he know? Set up?!

I’ve heard it surmised that this was the deep state purpose behind the raid in the first place.

Sorry to hear it.

Sounds like one purpose of the raid was to protect Fusion GPS from a lawsuit they were sure to lose and discovery that would expose Clinton and others.

I hope Cohen can refile the lawsuit.

Fusion GPS has lots more coming against them than this and from many sides. So this going away does not matter much.

I read a thread last week predicting this outcome. Cohen drops the suits in exchange for lesser charges.

"This Deep State needs to go."

The 'under the radar' manipulators in and around government have lost much in the past year. The biggest thing they've lost is the generally held belief that by the public that a 'shadow government'/Deep State didn't exist, and that it was ridiculous to believe such things. This was their biggest shield, and it is now pierced. It is now clear to the majority of the public that the most powerful in our government are not necessarily those we vote for, but those so covert and embedded that they are feared byl those we vote for. Yes, we now have our own Stasi/KGB/Gestapo, only ours are more dangerous because of their stealth.

The best way to deal with this, in my opinion, would be to start a war amongst agencies such that they fear each other and don't have the time or resources to subvert our freedoms. The best way to do this, unfortunately, involves creating another level of oversight of these agencies - but it has to be done very carefully. We need an oversight agency that is precluded from ever obtaining or holding information on US citizens, with the exception of those connected to the CIA or FBI either as employees, leadership, or collaborators in some manner. Any individual or group from this agency that violated this edict would automatically be sent to prison for life.

The purpose of this agency would be to police the scope and power of the CIA and FBI, and they would have the power and security clearance to view any and all documents, un-redacted. They would also have the power to pass incriminating information to the President, Congress, and the SC, and would be required to give it to all three branches - not just one. Leaking of material that they disclose would lead to automatic unpardonable life in prison. Clearly there are many more details the would have to be worked out, but something this aggressive is the only way we can reign in these agencies, other than to close them - which is another option.

He can reinstate it at an appropriate time. Filing just made the cockroaches come out to the light.

Not a bad move.

May have something to do with the IG report.
