GOP faces rural rebellion over Trump trade agenda
NBC "News" ^ | 4-21-18 | Jonathan Allen and Leigh Ann Caldwell

President Donald Trump's trade policies are confounding Republicans as rural voters — his strongest supporters — stand to get the short end of the stick just months away from the midterms.

From his dairy farm in southeastern Nebraska, lifelong Republican Ben Steffen believed Donald Trump meant what he said on the campaign trail about ripping up U.S. trade agreements.

So Steffen, who produces milk, beef, soybeans, corn and wheat, wasn't shocked when Trump pulled America out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership pact, began renegotiating NAFTA or announced his intent to impose aluminum and steel tariffs on China that have drawn the threat of retaliatory sanctions on American products. But he is alarmed about the potential costs of Trump's trade agenda to his own operation and the state's economy.

"This kind of chaotic volatility in our trading relationships damages the market," Steffen, who runs the farm with his wife, his sister and four full-time employees, said in a telephone interview with NBC News. "The market responds and the prices are erratic and that’s destabilizing for people out here on the bottom end producing feed and food."

Now Steffen, who didn't vote for Trump, is a vocal supporter of Jane Raybould, the Democrat running an improbable campaign against first-term Sen. Deb Fischer, R-Neb. — and says he's talked to a lot of fellow farmers and Republicans who have "buyer's remorse" about Trump and Fischer.

Sticking your head in the sod only makes you unaware of things you don’t want to hear. I support Trump’s tariffs too:

In the Bizarro World of the MSM, “lifelong Republican” is just another way of saying “Democrat”.

Politically, nobody is a lifelong anything.

Oh BS. A trade tariff on our exports means higher domestic supply and lower prices for US consumers, a huge win. It works both ways. We in the USA have been taking it in the shorts at the grocery store for YEARS!

Farmers are 3-4% of the US population. Consumers are 100% of the population. Bring on the lower prices for food!

IMO Agriculture(ethanol lobby) and farmers are way over represented in US politics mainly because the Iowa primaries is so early. If we could ditch that it would be a start. Get rid of subsidies and watch artificially high prices fall.

Fake news.

The potential impact to farmers of a trade war is not fake news. Any trade war is always going to have winners and losers.

In this case the winners are the US consumers. A tariff on our exports overseas means high domestic supply and lower domestic prices! IT WORKS BOTH WAYS! ECON 101.

So they are going to vote Democrat so they can have their taxes increased, their farms shut down by environmentalist, and their children raped by the education system. That makes a whole lot of sense.

“President Donald Trump’s trade policies are confounding Republicans”.....

Politicians are NOT good negotiators! If one takes the time to carefully review a number of the agreements and trade deals made by both sides of the aisle throughout the years, and prior to Trumps arrival, evidence will quickly surface to support such a claim. One can easily see why Republicans AND Demodummies might be confounded.

A tariff on our exports means less product for the country applying the duty(China) on our products sold them and more for the country(USA) producing the product that was to be exported to China but will now be sold domestically. FACT. Increased supply means lower domestic prices. FACT.

Try to use that pea brain of yours for once. You are really an annoying distraction. Why are you here?

If the domestic demand is there.

Increased supply means lower domestic prices. FACT.

Until it drives the producers out of business.

Try to use that pea brain of yours for once. You are really an annoying distraction. Why are you here?

To try and make sense out of the crap you post.
