Kim Jong Un agrees to end war, agrees to denuclearization of Korean Peninsula
NBC News ^ | April 27, 2018 | Mac William Bishop, Stella Kim and Alastair Jamieson

The leaders of North and South Korea signed a historic declaration Friday pledging "no more war" and a common goal of "complete denuclearization" on the Korean Peninsula.

The countries, which technically remain in a state of war, heralded the deal as part of "a new era of peace" after a historic summit.

North Korea's Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in also vowed to "cease all hostile acts" and to "transform the Demilitarized Zone into a peace zone." The two leaders embraced, and Moon said he would visit Pyongyang in the fall.

I guess the starving people of North Korea kept asking Little Kim, “why are we still at war?”

Assuming, for a moment, that his offer is real rather than just a giant scam I think it's much more likely that it's because Beijing said to him "you've gotta knock this $hit off,Comrade...we don't want any nuclear fallout drifting into our territory".

Just like the “war-monger” Reagan helped bring about the end of the cold war with the Soviet Union. I just hope that things can progress quickly enough that Trump can help with a real peace with North Korea and get them on the road to a better society and government.

Clinton sure screwed up things with Russia. It could have been a great time to help them in transforming them to a democracy and capitalism. We should have given American firms huge incentives to branch out into Russia. Although I suppose even with incentives it was a huge risk.

Anyway - they ended up trading a totalitarian government for totalitarian mobsters. And now they are wanting their old communism back again.

It is hard to believe though that North Korea will want to be open and free though. And I’m guessing the idea of reunification isn’t real popular with the South either. Lots of their resources will be heading north.

Regarding the fallout, we have had hints but do not know the extent of the collapsed test site mountain.

It is very possible the drift has already started

In other news, a fully grown tiger changed his stripes, and now identifies as a domesticated cat.

MEOW.

Keep the troops posted on the Z. Trust but verify.

...

While all this is happening, Trump has tough sanctions on North Korea that are actually being enforced.

Wow, this is absolutely incredible. So sad that so few Americans realize this year is still ongoing and how dearly we paid for it. I trust Kim about as far as I can throw his fat arse, but this is still good news. Whatever the cause is, even if it is accidental due to damaged test sites, let us move toward peace if at all possible. We should not think this is the end, because they have lied so many times before. They have attacked South Korea so many times, tried to assassinate their leaders time and again, and kidnapped and killed Allied soldiers guarding checkpoints. They need to prove it. Trump should keep the momentum, but keep the pressure on full force. Never take your eyes off them for a moment.

Similar “pledges” have been signed in the past by the North. Their intent was scrapped by the North nearly as soon as the North Korean dictators left the signing ceremony.

The real concern are political agreements the two may yet sign, which will begin a process of subverting the Constitution of South Korea and see direct North Korean political party openly participating in South Korea while suppression of opposition continues unabated in the North.

Many of the present South Korean leaders aides were members of an organization in South Korea that expresses “admiration” for the North. Some in south Korea consider them seditious but can’t prevent it.

Jimmy Carter said that stood for the moral equivalent of war.

"It’s the most important achievement of anyone on Earth in the last 100 years."

Sorry...no. That honor goes to Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II.

The point is to not be needed. As long as they are in place on the Z, fatso will behave. IF they are moved, he may think he’s conned us at last and start pouring troops into South Korea, or at least acting provocative. If they are needed elsewhere, they are right in an important area and can be redeployed. But for now, when this charm offensive is nothing but words and gestures, best not to flash a target to fatty, in case he has a “sudden” change of heart.

The two sides have signed very similar pledges in the past, and they have always been discarded in practice by the North. What you are witnessing is not new.

Same here. I had a college prof that traded hostilities with the norks during the conflict and he hoped it would end without us students having to do what he did.

“While fake media pissants were trying to get the president impeached over a hoax, he was busy ending a 68 year old war and the world’s #1 nuclear threat. Can’t make this $hit up.”

Nonsense. The North has signed similar pledges in the past. They are always quickly dust and all goes back to the status quo.

Everyone - for the press - is making more of the “pledges” than they are actually worth. NOTHING will actually change in the North which means little in their relationship will change.
