Mitt Romney on Monday came out against President Trumps policy of separating migrant families at the southern border, saying that the U.S. needs a more compassionate answer to illegal crossings.
The former Massachusetts governor and current Utah GOP Senate candidate retweeted former first lady Laura Bush, who wrote an op-ed criticizing the policy as cruel and immoral.

Im curious about whether American citizens who are prosecuted for crimes and detained will now be allowed to bring their children with them. Why the double standard?— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) June 18, 2018
Glad Laura Bush and Mitt aren’t running our country.
A compassionate answer?
These kids have AC, are better fed and sheltered than millions of
our own kids.
Primary Romulus.
The Bushes, John McCain, and Mitt Romney are proof that GOP does not care for or serve the average working American. Other than President Trump, the working American has no political voice. To the Uniparty, he/she is there to be taxed and to shut up and obey.
Romney lost to Bammy in what should have been an easy win. His opinion is valueless on these issues.
A number of prominent liberals even an ex-Obama admin waved the cage photos of children in outrage.
The raging liberals wrongfully concluded the cages were Trump's treatment of alien children. But the photo was vintage Obama-era.
IT GETS WORSE-----after Obama locked up children in cages, he issued an order to march the kids to the showers.
To save Obama's Halfrican *** liberals then concocted the fiction that Trump forcibly separated kids from parents.
FOAD, Mitt.
You’ve been trying to derail the Trump Train since it first left the station.
The Stupid Bandwagon is getting full.
Not enforcing the law, Mitt, it is not compassionate. It leads to deaths of many who try to make the trek across Mexico to the southern border. It encourages child slavery and child snatching by ‘coyotes’ who ‘rent’ them to others who use them to cross the border. That is not compassionate.
Not enforcing the law only encourages more illegals to try to cross the border. That is not compassionate.
Okay, we will immediately send them to both you & Laura Bush. That way both of you can shower the little darlings with compassion to your hearts content. We will be watching though, and if we determine that compassion is not up to our standards we will label you both as inhuman pieces of trash.
DEFEAT THIS LYING DEEP STATER SOCIALIST SCUM WILLARD !
And you have to ask and scratch your head just like I did over Alabama last year. Why does Donald Trump endorse RINO’s like Mr. Luther Strange and more recently Mr. Mitt Romney?
I am truly confused and disappointed.
The GOP members of Congress endorsed for Senate are a list of people who supported Paul Ryan for Speaker.
This week as the “immigration legislation” emerges will we see some truth about the situation or will just see more confusion with amnesty and cheap labor peppered in with “wall funding”?
“...the U.S. needs a more compassionate answer to illegal crossings. “
Build a wall and put a big beautiful door on the front of it.
Problem solved...
Romney is another Bush League Republican hell bent on turning the USA into North Mexico.
Keep leaning hard left, Willard. Let the UT voters see your real self before they go and do something they’ll regret.
IMMEDIATE deportation to ‘keep the family together’ for all ...
Finish the WALL. If they can’t come here, they’ll get to keep their families together.
I understand that Mexican immigration laws are very compassionate.
