Donald Trump Jr. has canceled a fundraiser he was scheduled to hold for Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush after multiple members of the Bush family levied harsh criticism at President Donald Trumps administration for its enforcement of immigration laws.
The barrage began earlier this week when former First Lady Laura Bush (the wife of former president and Texas governor George W. Bush and George P. Bushs aunt) wrote an op-ed in the Washington Post in which she called Trumps handling of illegal immigration immoral, a narrative pushed by national Democrats and, in Texas, retiring Texas House Speaker Joe Straus.
Straus himself worked in the White House during George P. Bushs grandfather, George H.W. Bushs one-term presidency.
After Lauras remarks, a source told the political news site Axios that George P. Bush was told the attacks must stop or the Trump clan would not be able to continue publicly supporting him.
That warning was not heeded.
Today, George P. Bushs father, former Florida governor and failed presidential candidate Jeb Bush, doubled down on Laura Bushs criticism, calling Trump heartless in a post on Twitter yesterday.
This tweet was reportedly the final straw for Trump Jr., and the decision to cancel the event was made shortly after. The fundraiser was scheduled to be held in New York City on June 25 and its cancellation cannot be understated.
Why?
Because Bush is the last survivor of a political dynasty that long controlled much of the Republican Party, but one that voters and activists have large scale rejected over the past decade.
While his familys vast resources and political infrastructure ensure he doesnt need help from anyone from a fundraising perspective, George P. Bush does require constant infusions of access and legitimacy in order to maintain his ability to make a weak claim conservative credentials and keep his political ambitions alive.
After narrowly avoiding a runoff in the Republican primary and being booed at the Texas GOP convention for his mishandling of the Alamo, the Texas Land Commissioner is finding himself relegated to a subsidiary status among statewide officials at a time he is seeking to grow his political brand in the hopes of securing higher political office.
George P. Bush is attempting to continue the Bush dynasty by entering politics as Texas Land Commissioner with the hope of securing higher offices in the future. Although there were much better candidates for land commissioner, he was elected by low information voters based on name recognition. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that he is gaining much traction.
President Trump doesn’t mess around. \0/
They’re loosing money....as are all who counted on Hillary being elected.
Not do his kids...
GPB is seeking re-election; he is a heavy favorite among the TX electorate who still have faith in the Bushes.
Good.
Mending Fences — The Bushes are doing it wrong.
George W Bush fooled me for 4 years. In his fifth year he declared he had political capital and he intended to spend it. He meant “on amnesty” and he gave his base the finger trying to get that through. Over and over and over. He showed his true colors and I find him loathsome now.
George P. Bush: "Dad, I almost had them fooled."
I think George P. has been trying to preserve his own political viability by associating with Trump on occasion. But his elders and their Trump hatred and globalist agenda has been making it hard for him.
We've already had the primary here in Texas, so many will vote for Bush because he will be the Republican on the ballot in November. I am leaving that race blank when I vote.
.
America, Stay Out the Bushes!
.
will he have to get a real job soon?
All of the Bush family have been trying to turn the USA into North Mexico since Yeb! married Columba.
George P. Bush was born a Mexican citizen because his mother was a Mexican citizen when he was born.
He is not naturally an American.
One is only naturally an American when one cannot be anything else.
Good job
I guess the “F you” stuff goers both ways.....Go Trump Jr
Right On !!
My wife and I have been doing that ever since GPB got on the Texas ballot. We may all have to start actually voting for the democrat candidate just to get rid of P.
