Graham on Roe v. Wade: Shouldn't Overturn Without 'Good Reason'

Sen. Lindsey Graham says the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion should not be overturned “unless there’s a good reason.”

In an interview aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet The Press", the South Carolina Republican said the decision has been reaffirmed "in many different ways" in subsequent rulings.

"I would tell my pro-life friends: you can be pro-life and conservative, but you can also believe in ‘stare decisis,’” he said, using a legal term used to refer to precedent.

Graham’s stance in support of Roe v. Wade came just days after Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he’d retire from the nation’s high court at the end of July, giving President Donald Trump his second opportunity to offer a nomination to the Supreme Court.

People who pretend to be pro-life, but are actually pro-abortion, are disgusting.

"How about just sending it back to the States?"

That not good enough. Not even close.I can't legally buy,or possess,a firearm in Massachusetts despite being a decent, sane law abiding citizen.OTOH I could,in many states (including Oklahoma) buy, possess and carry a firearm without a single bit of trouble or hassle.

Some states simply don't care...so certain inalienable rights and responsibilities shouldn't be left up to the states.

When the USSC decided abortion was a right, they based it on the unwritten Right to Privacy they claimed was in the U. S. Constitution.

Since then, science has proven that the unborn feel pain and have beating hearts at the ages women are allowed to have medical personnel murder the little human beings.

Those discoveries make abortion the only murders that the perpetrators are allowed the privacy to commit.

How about a resurgence of "anti murder" patriots; would that be good reason enough? I think so.

Isn’t not murdering babies a “good reason”. These LIB ghouls are beyond hope.

but you can also believe in ‘stare decisis,’

That's ironic seeing as how the supreme precedent of "Thou shalt not murder" was ignored in Roe vs Wade.

SC elected him again after multiple amnesty attempts.
Why should this be a deal-breaker when giving away the country to fraudulently documented foreigners is not?

who on the list of 25 would not overturn RvW? I suggest none of them know and no one will know until it actually happens.

I’ll take any win on Roe we can get at this time. If they moved it back to first trimester that would be a win. If they defined an embryo as life, or heartbeat as life, etc., those would be wins.

Heartbeat might actually be a bigger win than total repeal, since repeal just kicks it to the states.

So, he doesn’t think murdering babies is a good enough reason. But then it’s not news that he’s evil (I bet he subscribes to the sodomite manifesto which was read into the congressional record some years ago).

So, LG, the cold-blooded murder of 60 million innocent babies is not reason enough?????? LG has lost his mind and our nation has lost its soul.

Graham is the biggest RINO in the senate. It’s always been hard for me to believe this worthless POS sits in Storm Thurmond’s old seat. SC used to be a very conservative state with conservative Republicans, now the vast majority of them are RINOs. My brother has lived in Charleston for 50 years, is a republican and stays up on politics, He despises Graham, Tim Scott and the rest of the GOP in the state and that includes Trey Gowdy, who he calls a blowhard who’s never saw a camera he didn’t love. Graham is a closet democrat and always has been.

I agree. At the same time you can replace free born Americans with docile socialized slaves. A win win for the Democrats. They hated it when their slaves were taken away.

Let’s expand on the Latin crapola then to establish a new legal term: stare decisis interruptus - restore stare decisis to pre-1973.

Legal philosophy is just a shell game to preserve the usurpation of power by the courts.

RINOs like Graham and Collins act like we’re a bunch of fools. Oh, it’s OK when the left totally ignores stare decisis, making up entirely new legal rights out of nothing. It’s all well and good when Kennedy joins the left to smash gay marriage down the throats of voters in all these states. It’s settled law (until the left wants to redefine it again).

When we want to return things to the original and completely clear meaning of the original document, then the RINOs and the leftists wail about stare decisis. We must respect these wise prior decisions even though the leftist courts constantly spit in our faces by changing the rules whenever and however it suits them.

No way, Graham. We have as much a right as the left to have our political will expressed, and we conservatives believe in a return to the rule of LAW. Don’t like something in the US Constitution? Amend it! Otherwise... Go take a flying leap!

I think a penumbra of reasons exist to overturn it and let states decide.
