Self magazine features plus-size model Tess Holliday on first digital cover
Fox News ^

Self Magazine debuted its first digital cover this week, which showed plus-sized model Tess Holliday and told readers that her “health is none of your business.”

The health and wellness magazine posted the cover to its Instagram account and included a portion of Editor-in-Chief Carolyn Kylstra’s editor’s letter, which explains why the publication decided to give Holliday “a platform.”

“Holliday identifies as a fat woman; we chose to give her a platform because she has insightful things to say about thriving in a world that devalues bodies of size,” the letter said. “We also chose to feature her because size representation is necessary, especially for a national health media brand that can help guide the conversation about what it means to be healthy and how to make health accessible.”

It went on to add that a person’s level of health can’t be determined "just by looking at them."

“And moreover, you should know that concern trolling — using a person’s perceived health to justify making them feel bad about themselves — isn’t just counterproductive, it’s abusive,” it said.

Some commenters on the post applauded the magazine’s decision, with one user writing, “Thanks for showing ALL kinds of beautiful women!” and another saying they “adore this!”

Morbid obesity isn’t funny or desirable. I don’t think we should mock it but certainly not celebrate it. If this poor girl lives long enough she will be facing multiple chronic health issues.

My fat BIL who does not have the will to lose 60 lbs is now plagued with type 11 diabetes to the point of starting insulin next week, necropsis of the feet to the point he shuffles around, renal problems and God knows what else. All due to overweight.

RE:”There are some men (a very small number) who are attracted to obese women. I think it’s a fetish and an unhealthy one at that.”

Like if she rolled over in her sleep?

Her health is none of my business?

By that logic, my health care is none of my government’s business either

Fair is fair.

I didn't know who this lady was before last week so, I'm fine with not caring about her health or anything else about her. But, the glorification of obesity in our culture is a problem. There are all kinds of reasons for it I'm sure, but I place a lot of blame on the Federal government and the nutritional standards they have been pushing since at least the 70s. That recommended food pyramid is killing people. Grain should not make up 40-50 percent of the human diet. I've long suspected that those health standards were political payoffs to grain producing states in the same way that ethanol is

They can do what they like, it is their magazine. I don’t have any problem with fighting the devaluation of a person as a PERSON for being overweight.

I do have a problem if they are going to try to tell me THAT woman’s body shape is physically attractive, because it isn’t, and no amount of social justice warrioring is going to make any normal man think otherwise.

And the idiotic tattoos only make her look less attractive, and stupid to boot.

I cannot stand this leftist crap. I don’t judge PEOPLE and who they are on the basis of their physical appearance, but I get pissed when they try to MAKE me feel like there is something wrong with me for thinking a woman who has a physical appearance like that is wrongly “devalued” by normal people because she is GROSSLY obese and has a bunch of dumbass tattoos on her skin. That I DO have a problem with.
