Yes it is a Kipling poem and he was not only a white man but a citizen of the British Empire. I wonder if that school even knows that.

Those kids should go to the zoo and jump the fence and play with the cute little wolfies.

Ehhh - I’m not sure I buy the excuse...

Why still say the wolf pack oath all as one group in the morning gathering but wait til the students get broken up in their classes to say the pledge?

It’s not a time issue... it’s because they wanted certain classes to opt out.

A Wolf Pack conveys extremely violent imagery and as well is a common name for street gangs. Are we sure thats how we want children beginning their day?

Exactly!

Another insightful post on this thread.

“It is almost a law of history that the same wealth that generates a civilization announces its decay. For wealth produce ease as well as art; it softens a people to the ways of luxury and peace and invites invasion from stronger arms and hungrier mouths.”

The Pledge is an important element of America’s political culture. Patriotic traditions like the Pledge constitute the cultural exoskeleton which contains and forms the unique American culture for the Nation at large. To discard or disregard this essential element is an act of betrayal, and is evil. It should be treated as such.

“That place is total Lefty Land. Trendy in-towners founded the school because they did not want their precious little ones going to classes in majority-black Atlanta public schools. Of course, they wanted SOME black kids—but only carefully selected ones. That’s what they mean by diversity.”

This school is in my neighborhood. You describe the parents perfectly, very liberal, but won’t send their kids to a regular Atlanta school.

Note #37, this may not be the truth about the pledge.

Ever heard of The American Citizens Handbook? Interesting story, from 4-H to NEA (union) in 1941, to a landfill in 1969.

Are we sure they are not talking about the wolf pack chant from the movie The Hangover? This sounds like that maturity level.

I think that pledge in a bit weak, and a tad stupid. Allegiance to a FLAG? Flags don’t lead of follow. They should recite the Oath of Office like newly minted military officers.

He may not be cofefed about it but I am. Furious is more like how I feel. “With liberty and justice for all” isn’t good enough anymore? My God. How could a country be any better than to give liberty and justice for all? An almost impossible goal, but we have given it a good try for almost 300 years with the help the the Bill of Rights.

How I hate the changes taking place without protest. I am about to become anti-antiFA and antiBLM and antiDem (especially Pelosi and the Mafia Witch Maxine Waters—wait, wait, maybe the Mafia would be offended...DredgerofSewers Maxine Waters might be better...

The Law for the Wolves

“NOW this is the law of the jungle, as old and as true as the sky,
And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.

As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, the law runneth forward and back;
For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.

Wash daily from nose tip to tail tip; drink deeply, but never too deep;
And remember the night is for hunting and forget not the day is for sleep.

The jackal may follow the tiger, but, cub, when thy whiskers are grown,
Remember the wolf is a hunter—go forth and get food of thy own.

Keep peace with the lords of the jungle, the tiger, the panther, the bear;
And trouble not Hathi the Silent, and mock not the boar in his lair.

When pack meets with pack in the jungle, and neither will go from the trail,
Lie down till the leaders have spoken; it may be fair words shall prevail.

When ye fight with a wolf of the pack ye must fight him alone and afar,
Lest others take part in the quarrel and the pack is diminished by war.

—Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936)

I am apparently older than you but I can't imagine what the consequences would have been had I decided not to participate in saying the pledge.

I'm sure it would have involved my parents, the Principal and a sizable piece of wood.
