What a nitwit the writer is!!! I worked on many chicken farms in South Jersey in the late 1960s into the 70s and let me tell you chickens are cannibals. Any wounded bird will be chased and hounded and killed. Chickens eat any cracked or broken eggs. I had to feed large coops of chickens by hand during ice storms when the electric went out and they will fly at you and cover you.

I had a delicious omelette this morning. I am so grateful for the existence of non-fertile chicken eggs. I am also very grateful to the hens for their effort to lay them. I am very much in favor of giving hens good living space and good food, so I don’t mind paying extra for pasture-raised, etc. I also understand that those eggs may be more nutritious than the cheapest eggs, because of the better diet.

PETA is messed up on this. Domesticated chickens would go extinct without our participation in their lives. That the benefits go both ways is a blessing worth celebrating.
