I am glad the Schumer shutdown is over. I am glad federal workers will finally be paid. For weeks, Democrats held their paychecks hostage. Yesterday, I fought hard to immediately pay every single essential federal employee every essential employee at the Coast Guard, the TSA, air traffic controllers, Border Patrol agents, ICE agents, FBI agents, and those throughout law enforcement. Chuck Schumer and the Democrats cynically objected to that legislation and killed it on the Senate floor.
The Democrats have claimed that, once the shutdown ends, they are willing to negotiate in good faith to secure the border. Given their behavior, there is considerable reason to be skeptical of their claim. But, now, we will see if they actually meant what they said.
The media will obsess over the short-term political fight. But what matters is enacting real solutions to the real problems of this country. We have a crisis at our border, one that Texas experiences first-hand. We need real border security, including physical barriers to stop drug traffickers and human traffickers. I will continue to lead the fight to secure the border and get the job done. We must keep our word to the American people.
Perhaps the Democrats will end their partisan obstruction, set aside their hatred of the president, and agree to a reasonable compromise to actually secure the border. I hope so.
If not if Democrats continue to embrace open borders at the expense of the American people then todays actions have made it all but inevitable that the president will declare a national emergency and deploy the funds and manpower necessary to build a steel barrier at high-traffic locations on the border.
So, when did you become a FLeeper?
I don’t know what a FLeeper is.
But I’ve been registered on this forum longer than you.
This is a statement he just made.
It is breaking news.
I have not seen any similar statements and I have seen a ton of moribund nonsense.
He is a US Senator and that is an important breaking news venue for the shutdown topic.
Much better than that two faced A-hole Graham.
Judges can’t block anything. They are passive and have no force except from those who agree with them by law.
But judges that rule against the law have not legitimate force at all.
Invasion (illegal immigration and immigration of our enemies) is mandated by the Constitutional to be stopped by the federal government (U.S. Const., art IV, sec. 4).
Decisions judges make that are contrary to the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land, should be ignored and nullified which is exactly what Trump should do if that is what happens.
KEEP the unconstitutional 80%+ portion of the feds shut down. Best thing that could ever happen to us - U.S.
Ted is right on all counts.
One would have to ask, if the Democrats are willing to negotiate in good faith to secure the border, now that the shutdown is over, what were their reasons for not negotiating in good faith to begin with, in order to prevent the shutdown from occurring? It appears to me all of this unpleasantness could have been avoided if the Democrats had previously done, what they claim they are willing to do now. Talk about holding Federal workers hostage for political show. This is all on the Democrats.
Gillette has a cure for your depressed state.
80%+ of the federal government is unconstitutional
GOVERNMENT creates poverty
AMEN
I think it’s a good statement.
Cruz is racking his brain to see how he can pull off Primarying Trump in 2020
Lay off the hard stuff, ain't gonna happen.
The Dems can make a deal in the next three weeks where they get DACA and we get a wall -or- they can wait three weeks and get nothing and we get a wall.
========================================================\
It’s the latter.........Pelosi is too entrenched in blocking the wall to do the sensible thing much less the best thing for America.
Agree. Thanks for posting!
Excellent that he called it the “Schumer shutdown”. Keep that in the public mind.
As long as we start to protect American industry and workers with tariffs then what you say will be true.
Yes it does, this is a good reply by Cruz.
Cruz has been debating on behalf of trump on the senate floor more than any other senator. He is still fighting for wall funding
Fighting? I see no mention in Cruz’s statement of the fact that the Uniparty has refused to fund the wall for 30+ YEARS and instead has promoted open borders.
This is battle is way, way bigger than Trump and sadly the GOP is once again AWOL. Don’t let the Uniparty isolate, lay 100% of the blame at his feet and Alinsky him.
Just an FYI...

Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA. Passed in 1977, the law allows the president to declare a national emergency to deal with any unusual and extraordinary threatto national security, foreign policy, or the economythat has its source in whole or substantial part outside the United States. The president can then order a range of economic actions to address the threat, including freezing assets and blocking financial transactions in which any foreign nation or foreign national has an interest.
(Trump)could determine that any American inside the U.S. who offers material support to the asylum seekersor, for that matter, to undocumented immigrants inside the United Statesposes an unusual and extraordinary threat to national security, and authorize the Treasury Department to take action against them.
