Trump joked about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland. Puerto Ricans are joking back.

Greenlanders were not the only ones mocking reports that President Donald Trump was considering buying Greenland.

After The New York Times reported Thursday that Trump joked about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland, Puerto Ricans clapped back on social media.

Some called themselves the "Caribbean Vikings" and others shared all the "good things" they would have if they stopped being a U.S. territory and become an autonomous Danish territory.

"I don't know about you, but I have no problem with being sold to Denmark," Gabriel René, a digital ad executive, tweeted.

"Denmark is the country with the best education in the world," a man wrote on Twitter.

"Honestly being part of Denmark may be the best thing to ever happen to us," Dartina Marie Pérez, who lives in Puerto Rico, tweeted.

A Puerto Rican podcaster, known as Nieto, shared what some labeled as the Danish "Starter Kit."

"I have been preparing for when Trump exchanges us for Greenland and we are a colony of Denmark," Nieto tweeted in Spanish, sharing photos of "Danish Delights" butter cookies, the TV show "Vikings" and Danish beer bottles.

Others included a Danish-to-Spanish dictionary on their "Starter Kits."

Now it's Denmark's turn to be pissed off.

The USA would certainly get the better deal in that trade.

I’d trade PR to anyone for nothing.

We need to restart the Puerto Rico independence movement.

"Denmark is the country with the best education in the world,"...

They are always looking for free stuff. Let's just give them PR as a gift.

We could give it back to Spain.

But the Spaniards said “No Thanks.”

“Honestly being part of Denmark may be the best thing to ever happen to us,”

Your whole problem is that you’re always waiting for something to happen to you.

What a crime ridden dump and waste of a good island Puerto Rico is. We should cut this sh*thole from our portfolio ASAP.

Useless people. I’ve been to the Philippines and they hit by an average 5 typhoons per year where people die and lots of damage, AND they re-build asap within days.

These lazy clowns on the other hand, still take YEARS after the last Hurricane 3 years ago?..

“After The New York Times reported Thursday that Trump joked about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland...”

Well, let’s take a look at the key statement, here.

First of all, the New York Times reported it - which means it’s probably a complete lie, since they’ve admitted being nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the Democrat party.

According to the linked tweet referencing the Times assertion, this “trade” quote is attributed to Trump by “a former official” (gee, where have we heard that before?). The “former official” isn’t named. How convenient.

What REALLY needs to be done is to trade the New York Times for Pravda, or whatever passes for news in Mainland China or North Korea. The coverage of REAL news here would no doubt be improved.

They’d have financial independence also. Doubt they want that though.

Now, aboput selling California back to Mexico...

I'm thinking 24 dollars worth of beads should be our negotiating price. Of course that is just the opening price. We will come down.

USA inventions: Transistors, airplanes, automobiles mass production, computers, tons of new pharmaceuticals, TV, heart transplants, automatic transmissions, cell phones, etc etc.

From Hurricane Maria’s impact in Puerto Rico and the island’s reconstruction process to politics and the Latin music boom in the U.S., most of Nicole’s reporting focuses on issues affecting Latino communities in the U.S., the Caribbean and Latin America.

In the past, Nicole has published stories for MSNBC, Telemundo 47, NPR’s Latino USA, NBCNews.com, among other publications.

Before joining NBC, she was part of the inaugural cohort of students at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism’s first Spanish-language bilingual journalism program. In 2016, she was one of 20 fellows selected to join the Knight Diversity Internship Program at CUNY where she completed an internship with Starfish Media Group, a production and distribution company founded by award-winning journalist Soledad O’Brien.

Not bad looking though. I wouldn’t kick her out of bed. Until after.
