Earlier this week, the Chair of the British Parliament Science and Technology Committee, Sir Norman Lamb MP made calls for a full investigation into cholesterol lowering statin drugs. It was instigated after a letter was written to him signed by a number of eminent international doctors including the editor of the BMJ, the Past President of the Royal College of Physicians and the Director of the Centre of Evidence Based Medicine in Brazil wrote a letter calling for a full parliamentary inquiry into the controversial medication[1]. Its lead author Cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra makes the case for whys theres an urgent need for such an investigation in European Scientist.
A few weeks ago, an alarmed and confused patient in his late forties, who I shall call Mr Smith, came to see me for a consultation. Four years earlier he suffered a heart attack where severe blockages were found in his right coronary artery. These were opened up and kept open with metal stents.
He was prescribed atorvastatin, which is standard practice for heart attack patients regardless of cholesterol levels. Unfortunately, the atorvastatin caused severe muscle pains on exercise. Fortunately, his symptoms disappeared within a week of stopping the drug.

Same here and my mother just passed away at 102 — We’ve both been taking statins since Pravachol first came out. She would have lasted a lot longer if she hadn’t broken her hip.
So it will burn carbs until it starts burning fat?
why?
and what’s the difference between carbs and fats?
thanks
Me too. Blood lipids all normal and I feel fine.
Agree. No one over 60 needs statins. And cholesterol is good for you. Look it up. Big pharma has been lying. And the doctors are 10 years behind the new science. Dr ken Berry. dr Robert Lustig. Look up their videos.
Sugar, processed foods and excessive carbs are the enemy. Go Whole Foods, more fatty meat.
Im doing paleo now. Was straight keto for 8 months with amazing results. Not just in weight but all my blood work as well. Yeah I know its anecdotal. Works for me though.
“hardest part is i wake up with seizures/tremors and nothing can control it”
Tried a small amount of mj? Two puffs instantly stop a type of muscle spasm I have (actually about midway through the second draw) and, of course, there is positive research concerning the anticonvulsive effects of CBD and possibly THC.
Search for info on CoQ10 and statins.
Statins lower CoQ10, which the heart muscle needs. The older we get, the less CoQ10 we acquire through food. A supplement may be necessary.
FYI
I watch Dr. Ken Berry’s videos, but I really like Dr. Berg’s videos, too.
You probably need more good fat...it’ll fill you up...eggs, too. I don’t do long fasts very well...my brain immediately goes running amok with thoughts of starvation and craves food...but intermittent fasting daily works.
Exactly, the extra money you spend on high-quality food will more than pay for itself in the form of lower medical/medication costs down the road.
I was taking 2 prescriptions — a blood pressure medication and something for bladder problems. On those 2 medication I was fine and suffered no side affects at all.
My Doctor put me on a Statin.
About 10 days later, I almost died from LOW blood pressure. I quit taking anything and my Dr. had me drink tons of water and my blood pressure came back to normal in 2 days.
I will go to my grave knowing that the statins in that 3 prescription cocktail almost killed me from low blood pressure.
Meanwhile, they are nearly useless to prevent heart attacks in people who do not already have serious heart disease. They MIGHT make sense for people with heart surgery and with serious heart disease, but are a generally useless boondoggle for healthy people with no signs of heart disease.
What a scam. Just like “don’t eat fat or cholesterol.
Your liver converts between fat and cholesterol when there is an excess of either. Eating cholesterol doesn’t directly raise your blood cholesterol, and eating fat doesn’t directly cause body fat. There is a very complicated process going on and the American Medical Association acts like kindergarteners with their simplistic thinking.
Your brain is 1/3 cholesterol. You NEED cholesterol in your diet. When you starve yourself of cholesterol, your kidneys convert fat to cholesterol, most of it the Bad LDL cholesterol.
The AMA is killing us. Sometimes I think it is intentional.
Once your body is “Fat Adapted”, you can go all day without feeling hungry.
I eat when I want to eat, not when I have to eat.
It’s all about lowering Insulin Resistance, that is the root cause of many diseases, treat the IR, and it’s amazing how many issues will be alleviated.
Hmm.
It won’t stop it upon waking but it MIGHT stop it in its TRACKS which would be a HUGE help.
CBD oil helped it for about a week
and i couldn’t afford updosing that quickly
THC will have to try it
I eat when there’s food in front of me lol
Took my hubby off of them years ago... bad juju! Memory loss, fatigue, muscle myalgia. Had it!
My Dad was a GP from 44 until 1992... he told me it was all BS in his dotage and I knew that he was right.. along with the BP measurement changes when they came out with BP meds!
I don’t trust any of this stuff anymore.. not that I ever did.
After my Dad, smartest GP on Planet , 3000 Babies delivered and that was a side detail for him, he saved a ton of lives with 3 years of WWII crammed Medical School, no sleep, and a boatload of Experience and Common Sense.
Call me a cynic with good reason!
People need to read the statistics. For example, if your risk of a heart attack is 3% per year, statins may reduce it to 2% per year. Thus your risk dropped 33%. But your risk is minimal to start. (My numbers for discussion only.)
In a lot of cases, the event wasnt going to happen to start with.
Yep, it’s the “relative risk reduction” (vs “absolute risk reduction”) shell game they play.
Wow HOW deceiving!!
Me too. No muscle pain. My total cholesterol is 130. Added benefit of statin is that it strengthens existing plaque. Keeping it smooth and hard. Less shearing and resulting clots. Less heart attack s and strokes.
Very interesting. That makes sense. I can see my own problems there.
