And for some reason I recall a rabbi saying in 1979 “Jewish births are below the replacement rate” meaning there would be fewer Jews having children and grandchildren to replace the number at that time.

Are you just looking up the name "Muhammad" to see where it falls in popularity or are you using the no less than 14 spelling variations and combining them? I think if you account for all the spelling variations, the name becomes much more popular.
Muhammad (or a variation thereof) is traditionally the name given to all first-born sons.
It actually brings up like six variations. None of them are in the top 400 boys names.
