Political party:Republican (before 2007), Independent (20072013), Democratic (20132019), Libertarian (2019present)Wiki He's been a democrat since 2013 - that's his 'real' party.

It is hard to see a theme to Lincoln Chafee’s political career except for a distinguished father and a casebook example of political gender fluidity.

There must be a financial angle looser like Chafee play when they run for an office where they have a less than zero chance of winning. No one would;d donate to their campaign with a thought they actually have even a remote chance of winning. Is this simply a way to launder money?

Tinfoil hat *on*.
The cynic in me, suggests his Sore-Ass bribe money has run out, so he's doing this to raise money: IIRC any fundraising money for a campaign, which isn't spent, then belongs to the candidate.
Tinfoil hat *off*.

John Chafee served honorably and creditably in many roles for many years. He was one of the last of the great New England patricians. His politics were much too liberal for me, but hey
he was a Republican trying to survive in Rhode Island in the generation during which the northeast became a one-party sinkhole. He was a decent guy.
Lincoln has spent his entire life trying unsuccessfully to measure up to his father. He should have had the sense 40 years ago to go carve out his own career in some field where he might have done useful work. He would probably have made a fine high school teacher. But he chose to spend his life chasing his dad's shadow, and deep down inside knowing that he's failed.

Of course there’s no way that he’s motivated by the prospect of taking votes away from the President.

“in what appears to be a new long-shot”
hey, CNN, what part of that action “appears”? appears that it’s new? appears that it’s a long-shot? because to me, both are self-evident without the squish qualifier “appears”, but i understand, you squished it because you really meant “hopefully” instead of “appears”, but you didn’t have the cojones to be that obvious ...
