The outcome is known already. The question is the amount of drama will be added to the dish.
So true. Not only can’t they manage a budget , they use their office as free air time for puffing up their desire for truth at all costs...
I hope you’re right - I don’t trust Romney. I think he’s capable of pulling a McCain.
I think they should dismiss for the sake of future presidents. A case that does not reach the standard of high crimes and misdemeanors should be dismissed. If it is not, it sets a precedent that future opposition parties can make minor charges for impeachment and expect it will be tried. It should be tossed.
This is correct. And if/when the articles are presented, McConnell has the sole power to DENY them. To return them and the Managers back to the House. No votes needed. No hearings, no nothing.
Their are no rules for a coup. It’s all backroom plotting and backstabbing.
Its better for Trump to go through the farce of a trial and have them vote to acquit.
Ted Cruz brought up that point this morning on Fox News.
This is better than a dismissal. He indicated acquittal shows the claims were baseless and is better for Trump long run.
I thought not in this case?
A Trial is the “Briar Patch”
HA!
You're naîveté is showing.
As long as a democrat who could be hung for treason, imprisoned for malfeasance, or exposed for what they are with the attendent loss of position, power and wealth draws a breath, they will find a pretext for yet another round of impeachments.
People have been murdered for pocket change. How much more motivation does someone who, in an honest investigation, would lose their senatorial power, their freedom, their personal wealth, and perhaps their very lives have to have to 'remove this troublesome priest president' by any means necessary?
Susan Collins likes lots of political foreplay before she finishes whatever it is she is doing. Always has.
He is the president of the Senate. There is no conflict of interest as a result. Although the slime-o-crats will howl like hell because of it.
“Whoa! GOP does not have 51 votes to dismiss?”
Welcome to the party, pal.
McConnell said in early December that there was not a majority in the caucus to dismiss. That means that there are AT LEAST 27 GOP “no” votes on a motion to dismiss. Never mind “don’t have 51”, they don’t have 27.
And Jeff Flake said there are 35 GOP votes to convict, if the Senators were allowed to vote in secret. Now, allowing for the fact that Flake is a rejected BS artist, nobody on the GOP side of the aisle called him a liar.
All this “The impeachment is DOA, GOP Senate says bye-bye to impeachment, the GOP will shut it down” is foolish nonsense. Aren’t you paying attention to what these creatures have done to resist Trump, disrupt his government, while praying for his fall?
What do you think the GOP is, really?
While that is a viable option, it would deny the President’s team from getting their message out. It would also miss the opportunity to expose the corruption of the Bidens and the true scale of the deep state attempt to overturn the election.
I am of the opinion that is why Nancy is slow rolling the articles. She KNOW that if the Senate (where she has no control) begins to investigate the whole Russia hoax, the Dems will be exposed and will likely loose control of the House in the election due to voter backlash.
By the end of the day they vote to convict, all in favor will be floating down the Potomac to the sea.
“50-50 tie Mike Pence is the 51 tie breaking vote”
For motions made during the trial that are 50-50, the motion either fails or Mr. Chief Justice Roberts is the tie-breaker.
During the trial, not during a vote on dismissal of the charges outright. That is Senate business
Wasnt Clinton acquitted in his impeachment trial? The charges were certainly not baseless in the case of Clinton. In fact I was shocked when Ken Starr chose to bring so few charges from the many possible ones.
“During the trial, not during a vote on dismissal of the charges outright. That is Senate business”
It’s irrelevant.
There aren’t 30 votes to dismiss, further discussion is pointless.
Most political experts and commentators believe Trump would NOT be better served with being exonerated with a Senate Trial. Just vote to acquit and be done with it. Besides - another impeachment is always just down the road.
Most political experts and commentators also believe a Durham/Barr Report will be the correct vehicle to start the criminal trials against the Bidens and their scandals.
