State Of Emergency Declared In Washington State Over Coronavirus
Breitbart News ^ | 2-29-2020 | Bob Price

Washington Governor Jay Inslee (D) declared a state of emergency on Saturday following the announcement of the first coronavirus-related death in his state and the nation. The governor directed all state agencies to use all resources necessary. He also authorized the use of National Guard troops.

“This will allow us to get the resources we need,” the governor said in a written statement. “This is a time to take common-sense, proactive measures to ensure the health and safety of those who live in Washington state. Our state agency directors have been actively preparing since the nation’s first case appeared in Snohomish County. Washingtonians can be assured we’ve taken this threat seriously and have been working in collaboration with our health care partners to develop plans and procedures to prepare for what could likely be a worldwide pandemic.”

President Donald Trump described the first person to die on U.S. soil from a Covid-19 infection as a man in his mid-50s with a medical history that put him in a high-risk category.

Washington officials announced on Saturday the confirmation of three new cases on Saturday in addition to the two announced Friday night, KIRO7, local news outlet, reported. The initial report does not describe how the three new patients became infected. One of the cases announced Friday is being called a possible community-spread infection.

Governor Inslee’s proclamation orders all “state agencies and departments to utilize state resources and do everything reasonably possible to assist affected communities responding to and recovering from COVID-19 cases.” It also allows for the deployment of the Washington National Guard if ht becomes necessary.

In January, the Washington Military Department activated the State Emergency Operations Center at a Level 1 condition, the governor stated. This allows the highest level of communication and control to help coordinate

Nothing “lazy” about it at all. I, too, have a bit of a military background, Thunder “6”.

A purely political move by a political hack that wants to look like he’s doing something worthwhile.

My background is irrelevant to my assertion. I am no fan of Inslee, but in this case he needs to declare an emergency to gain access to federal assets (and funding).

“Sounded like panic to me.”

Sounds like pandering to me. Next he’ll have the whole state stay in their homes for 14 days. Except him, his family, his driver, and his gas guzzling suburban he can ride in on to save the state against the evil coronavirus. Pure bolshevik!!

That's gonna drive up the death rate....since it's likely they already have problems.

But it will produce an extreme projection....kinda like Climate change stats.

Ebola spread from unprotected handling of dead bodies.

People don't have to be dead to spread Ebola:

"The virus spreads through direct contact with body fluids, such as blood from infected humans or other animals. Spread may also occur from contact with items recently contaminated with bodily fluids." - Wikipedia

IIRC health care workers treating a live patient with Ebola in the US became infected.

>> A Demonrat Governor will declare an emergency for that, but not for all the countless folks harmed and killed by illegals. What a joke. <<

Good point. I bet FAR more Washingtonians have been killed by illegals than those killed by the Corona virus.

Actually the bubonic plague is now highly treatable. People get it all the time. Go to the doc, get anti-biotics, survival rate is very high.

2,979 dead and 86,986 confirmed cases of coronavirus for a 3.4% case fatality rate.

Yes, it's true that, although I did say, "in areas where the coronavirus spreads", I did not account for people who are not going to get the virus in these areas, which I should have done.

But:

1. I did hear a world virus expert say the other day that this could eventually infect 40-70% of the world population.

2. China and South Korea are taking extreme measures to contain the virus. We are not, so far.

3, We don't know what percent of the population in areas such as Wuhan will eventually get the virus, or if figures being reported are accurate.

4. I also came across a video in which a reporter, pretending to be a Chinese official, called a mortuary in Wuhan. The worker at the mortuary would not give the total number of cremations they were doing, but did say that the number was 4-5 times the normal rate.

In contrast, about 50-100MM Americans get the flu, about 800k are hospitalized and 30k die. So the fatality rate of influenza if you're hospitalized is about that of coronavirus, but it's easier to get the flu.

Not all the reported cases of coronavirus involve hospitalizations. Based on your figures for the number of people who have both diseases, the coronavirus could be 50 times deadlier. I have heard that flu has a mortality rate of 0.1%, and coronavirua somewhere in the range of 2-4%. So that means coronavirus is (same ballpark) 20-40 times deadlier than flu.

it's easier to get the flu.

Now.

However, if a Dem gov acts like a scared child, whips up hysteria,

Just out of curiosity, do you live near the East coast?

Great points all. The data is showing this has a higher virulence than the flu, FYI.

Well, that’s been the case continuously in the State of Washington since 1985.

Well, since only one person has died from the virus in WA, you can safely say that volcanoes have killed more people in the state.

And you’re right to. Guvs call emergencies all the time for, for example, limited floods after they are over. Washington state as I understand it now has this in an elderly facility as well as one for children. It was reasonable to expect that they would be exposed, given their geographic proximity and Asian populations.

NYC apparently now has it and is testing for it in their own labs. Washington probably needs to do the same. We’ll know more and have better defenses and it will probably mellow out as a threat over time, but your state seems to be the first real hotbed for it, so is facing more unknowns.
