Trump lobbies Bernie Sanders supporters to join Republican Party

WASHINGTON — President Trump made an appeal for Bernie Sanders’ supporters to join the Republican Party on Wednesday after Sanders suspended his campaign — preying on tensions within the Democratic movement.

In a trio of tweets, Trump repeated his claim that the Democratic Party had done wrong by Sanders and his legion of fervent supporters, and accused former candidate Elizabeth Warren of costing him victory.

“Bernie Sanders is OUT! Thank you to Elizabeth Warren. If not for her, Bernie would have won almost every state on Super Tuesday!” Trump wrote to his 76 million followers.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that Sanders, 78 — a party outsider much like the president — was being victimized by the same Democratic establishment that tried to derail his bid against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“This ended just like the Democrats & the DNC wanted, same as the Crooked Hillary fiasco. The Bernie people should come to the Republican Party, TRADE!” Trump wrote.

Bad idea. We don’t need a pack of Commies in the GOP

If they push Trump across the finish line this year as they did in 2020, we'll take them.

We are the big tent party

Say what?

Bernie Supports, escape from the plantation party

Sure, because everyone knows that the GOP is really the party of Medicare for all, $15 minimum wage, free daycare and college tuition, and global warming.

Joe isn’t any better. He and his entire family are nothing but a bunch of crooks sucking at the political trough.

A true Communist would and should vote for Trump and any Republican they can find in keeping with accelerationism (vide: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerationism).

Don’t take my word for it; just do a quick internet search on the subject.

Type "sanders supporters voted for trump 2016" into any search engine and pick any one of the list of sources that you find to be credible.

I don't know why you don't accept this; Trump himself has publicly lauded Sanders' position on free trade and the loss of American manufacturing. (Why do you reject the idea that many Sanders supporters would pivot to Trump in the absence of their preferred candidate?)

How about Medicaid for all, minimum wage, free college, higher taxes for the wealthy, and climate change? Wake me when Trump adopts those.

They seem to be either single-issue voters or just cognizant of the fact that since the Clinton Presidency, the Dems are the party of Wall Street.

The best Trump can go for is to have Bernie supporters just stay home. The question then becomes whether the never-Trumpers and independents who can't vote for Trump overcome the Berniebots who sit it out.

But if they voted for Trump in the past, why not invite them to do it again?

The Bernie supporters certainly don't think Trump is going to agree to a $15 minimum wage or the list of items they expected from Bernie. If they want to vote for Trump just to stick the Democrats in the eye again, let's take their votes.

They may be nuts, but I believe a lot of Sanders supporters are attracted to Trump because of his anti-Globalist streak <<< Maybe BUT ..they ain’t nuts!..they are just learning to think rationally...So given a “REAL” choice.... the ones that actually vote....They will do like all thoughtful people do....Vote in their own best interest at the time....Chalk up a lot of “unexpected” votes for Trump....

You don't want their votes?

What is the effect if a commie votes for our side vs. against it?

I call it a lessening of commie effects against us.

Sure I’ll take their votes, but their ideas should NEVER be allowed to take root in the GOP. Just look at where the Rat party is today. They are a cartoon of an organization because they didn’t throw the radical leftists out years ago. That can happen to the GOP without vigilance. It is a very short-sighted strategy with potentially disastrous consequences over the long haul.
