A new poll out of Michigan shows the state’s Senate contest narrowing. Marketing Resource Group, a public opinion survey research firm in Michigan, found that voters are far from enthusiastic about incumbent Democratic Senator Gary Peters, and the approvals of Republican challenger John James are climbing. Sen. Peters is vying for a second term in the upper chamber.
The group’s survey, at +6 Democrat, asked 600 likely voters in Michigan about November’s Senate race between June 12 and 15. With a margin of error of 4 percent, only 19 percent of voters affirmed that Sen. Peters deserves a second term, while 30 percent say it is time to elect someone new and 50 percent remain undecided. When asked who they would vote for if the election were held “today,” 28 percent of those surveyed said that would definitely vote for Sen. Peters, with 6 percent responding that their vote would “lean” toward the Democratic incumbent. On the same question, James received 26 percent of enthusiastic support, with 3.5 percent “leaning” toward the Republican. Of the voters surveyed, 13 percent in total said that they would vote for “someone else,” while 18 percent remain undecided about the election.
After 3 decades in politics and less than 5 months to go before the general election, less than 20% of Michigan voters think @GaryPeters deserves reelection. #MISen https://t.co/cB5dDX1ZmQ— Tori Sachs (@Tori_Sachs) June 16, 2020
James, a rising star in the Republican Party, ran against Michigan’s senior senator, Debbie Stabenow, in 2018 and lost by 6 points to the 20-year incumbent. With little name recognition and a minimal record to run on, Sen. Peters is much more vulnerable of an incumbent.

James is going to win.
I predict a GOP wave election in 2020.
The peope are sick of the virus, the lockdown and the riots.
Well that’s good news.
I don’t know much about John James but I’ve heard he’s a good conservative.
With the GOP Senate majority definitely at risk of this year, it would be great to flip this seat. And if this seat gets flipped that would bode well for Trump carrying Michigan again.
This is very good news!!!
The Democrat is too white.
If Republicans wanted a chance in elections, they would never run another white man. I wish I was joking, but I’m not. The amount of white guilt in this country is stunning.
typo: “people”.
I wish John James were running for governor but as long as he wins that is good. Have never heard anything form Peters except these last 6 months or so. Don’t know how he got my email. He touts his veterans status and tries to put a positive spin on what he has accomplished - squat IMO.
Funny. Loads of Freepers will take this poll as great news. As a “GOP Sweep”. When a random poll comes out that says “Trump at 36% approval”, it’s all BS. Just sayin.
Valid point.
If the last 10 years have showed us anything it is to be skeptical of all polling no matter which side cheers.
Trump at 36% approval is BS.
Most of the rest are like “Who?”.
Stick a fork in him, he’s toast..................
If the Democrat is white, he ain’t right........................./Johnny Cochran Vice............
I agree that 36% for Trump is BS. By the same token I’m not going to take this or any other good or bad poll seriously. Ever again.
Black Veterans Matter? :)
I don’t agree with that...but...it sure doesn’t hurt to get people like James elected to destroy their narrative. There are many people being taught that voting Republican is racist - but if they have choices like this staring them right in the face - there is hope at least some would question the truth of that narrative...i.e. make them think “How would be racist for me to consider voting for a black candidate over a white candidate?” The point isn’t to embrace the narrative by running candidate like James - but to destroy the narrative and expose it as a lie.
I saw James on Fox lots of times when he was running in 2018. Smart earnest kind of chap I thought. He could do with a little more charisma was my thinking.
We’ll see.
Well James did lose by only 6% in 2018 against a 20 year veteran with a huge name recognition. This poll places James just a bit better than that so its fairly believable.
The thing is, with all this BLM hysteria and James being black, there are all kinds of possibilities.
