Atlantic ^ | JUNE 2014 | TA-NEHISI COATES

Posted on 06/19/2020 9:54:05 AM PDT by DeplorablePaul

Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole.

Note it is labeled a story by Ta-Nehisi Coates, not a history, to avoid historical criticism like the 1619 project got.

Sins of the father..... In North Korea, the rule is that three generations will be punished for the crimes of the one.

You can’t have reparations without enslaving people.

If we gave them a ton of money they’d blow it at the track, so to speak. Then, the next generation would complain that they’d been disadvantaged, too.

Effective reparations would have to last multiple generations, which would create a black supremacist society with a lazy black entitled class. Not going to happen. Or, not to the extent they are pushing for. (AA has already created anti-white entitlements).

I am a firm believer in reparations.

Anyone who was a slave in the 1800’s and is still alive today should get a big chunk of wampum.

Reparations should only be paid to injured parties.

Legacy reparations are “dead on arrival”.

there is evidence emerging that whites were sold into slavery likely at higher rates than blacks- White Christians especially- so when black folks get their reparations, when will whites get theirs?

Many Slave owners and slave traders were black as well- will black folks demand reparations from the black community then? Or are some slave owners more responsible than others?

Will black folks go to Africa and demand that black folks there pay reparations? or are some slave traders and slave owners more responsible than others?

Dear descendents of African slave trade: let us know when you get your reparations, we have a significant bill you need to pay.

Ta-Nehisi should take her highly revised race-centric drivel and shove it as far up her nether region as possible. Its best use would be as bathroom tissue.

Thirty-five years of racist housing policy?

Last I saw, everybody who needs section 8 gets section 8.

Or is section 8 the racist policy?

Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy.

All sounds like Democrat laws and policies.

Actually slavery was in the United States of America for only 87 years.

July 4, 1776 to January 1, 1863.

Prior to 1776 the colonies were British.

Are any credits going to be applied by the Africans for holding their fellow man in Slavery for 2000 years, a practice that continues today?? What about their descendants, the African Americans??

Two hundred fifty years of slavery

The year was 1789 when the ratified Constitution created a government without the legislative power to impose or restrict slavery anywhere.

The year was 1865 when the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolished slavery forever.

The years between 1789 and 1865 number 76 years. 76 years is the number of years it took America to abolish slavery. Why is this feat not celebrated?
